Category: No Category
This is a small story that a 17yr old friend of mine from work wrote on his face book and I thought it was cool so asked if I could post it. I think I should start another lifestyle blog to write about random stuff.
He will be checking online for any comments.

Okai! So!
I was late recently to school one morning. I just got to the wharf, after walking around getting foods n things around the corso, this boy comes up to me crying saying that he lost him mum in a clothes shop. I couldn't just tell the kid to piss off and that i'm late for school and already missed my Economics Assessment, and my whole world was about to collapse into itself if i don't get to school ASAP, but hey, i was already half an hour late, a few minutes more couldn't hurt...
So with this kid hanging by my side we set on an epic quest to go looking for his mum in the many clothes stores that litter the corso.
I thought I remembered this kid from somewhere, and would explain why he randomly came up to me of all people. I only just remembered this now, but he was the younger brother of the boy i was paired with for the yr 6 buddy system that they do in most schools. i thought his last name sounded familiar.
i wanted him to stop crying, so being the genius that i am, i asked him if he liked ice cream, which (of course) he responded y... *sniffle* ye.. YEAH! And smiled, hoping I was gonna get him some, so we walked to macas and I got him a soft serve cone, 30c to get this kid to stop crying? priceless!
He gobbled it down, and we set off again, walking around the corso, this is what amused me greatly. we walked past the play equipment in the corso, and he started laughing at the kids hurting themselves on the equipment! i started laughing with him, it was amazing fun! but evil and sinister at the same time... it was like i had a mini me! after a few mins of watching kids hurt themselves, i got him to jump on my shoulders and keep a look out for his mum.
we continued walking around the corso.
he covered my eyes once and i walked into a pole, giving me a slight headache but it was amusing, at least to him. *grr*
after about 15 mins of walking around the corso with this kid on my shoulders pointing out which direction to go, it was like a mini adventure, we found her worrying her arse off close to tears asking to one of the store clerks. the kid yelled out HEY MUM! i let him off my shoulders and raced him there! (of course i let him win) and watched as he ran straight up to his mum, and gave her a really big hug.
she was so relieved she let out a big sigh. she said 'geez i gotta keep this kid on a leash!' as she pulled him closer to her. I laughed and said 'yeah, he's a quick one! he even beat me just then in a race!' and the kid looked up and gave me this HAR HAR I WON AND YOU DIDN'T HAR HAR, HAR HAR HAR! look.
She asked how exactly i kept him so happy, as he had been a nuisance all day, i simply said he seems to like mcdonalds ice cream. i smiled and began to turn to walk away, within a second she had already whipped out $20 and slipped it into my hand and said 'thankyou so much! you're a godsend! is there anything i can do to repay you?' (even after giving me $20 and refusing to take it back) i told her that i had missed my economics assessment and that it would be a massive help if she was to let them know that i had been helping her out, i gave her my name (although i forgot to give her the school number - her son was now in yr 7 so she had the number). She thanked me one more time and said it would be a pleasure to call em up and get me off the hook and began walking off. i just stood there for a few seconds, as if it was some scene out of some movie, and as they started walking off, the kid ran back to me, gave me a big hug and then quickly ran back to his mum all embarassed. It was adorable!
It left me in the best mood for the whole day, even though i was sleep deprived, still had the slight headache from running into the pole and this one guy in my year decided it'd be funny to tell my year adviser that i was smoking in the corso instead of going to school so when i finally got up to school, i didn't get the most pleasant greeting, but it was so worth it.
I talked to my year adviser, saying that i missed the assessment, and that i was going to get 0. As if right on queue, one of our office lady's asked to transfer someone to the phone and she said that it was about my lateness today. i'm like there is no way this can be about the lady i just helped, there is no way my luck can be *this* good... and noway, it was. She begins telling him that he had helped her son find her, and that he had been looking after him since 830am (and thus my lateness - she even lied to get me off the hook!). i went red. like i've never been spoken of so nicely by someone i barely knew, especially when she didn't know i was in the room. she asked my year adviser to pass on her thanks and hung up.
he looked at me and smiled and jokingly asked if this was my normal reason for lateness, and said not to worry and that he'll take care of the assessment task that i missed (that i ended up getting an estimate for). he did ask why i didn't admit to him that i was helping some kid find his mum, but i was just too embarrassed to reply, i don't even know why, i thought he wouldn't believe me but hey. the more you know.
As if there is a moral to this story, i just liked thinking about it, and how much fun and carefree this kid was. i mean come on! he had lost his parents in a busy department store, in a busy location, he walked right up to some young good looking chap (me, duh!) crying and saying he lost his parents.
I kept thinking about how simply amazing this kid was, and how he got me to think about myself a lot. it reminded me of how fun it was to be a kid, how carefree we were, not caring about our appearance, relationships, trends, being 'cool', school or part time jobs. Where as that was all i did worry about.
So I've stopped worrying about my future, knowing that it will sort itself out one way or another, I'm doing pretty well at school, I've got an awesome job where i get to boss people around and make customers feel dumb, my life is pretty damn awesome if i do say so myself =]
