Sam Raimi to Direct

OK - I am so excited I may wet myself before finishing this article. World of Warcraft is one of the most popular online PC games you can play. It is an MMORPG - which stands for Massively multiplayer online role-playing game. There are bout NINE MILLION playing World of Warcraft around the world. Astounding considering they all pay about $15- US a month to play it. I am so in the wrong business. BUT, I was one of those nine million people up until a few months ago when my PC had to be upgraded to keep playing and now does not meet the criteria to play it properly. My screen freezes or I end up with colored lines throughout the entire image. I was devastated and as soon as I have about two thousand spare $$ my PC is going nuclear and I will be back wasting all my spare time battling the Horde and all things evil online.
Announced yesterday at Comic Con 2009 director Sam Raimi (the Spider-Man and Evil Dead franchises) has signed on with Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures (The Dark Knight, 300, Watchmen) to be the man who brings Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft video game fantasy franchise to the big screen. Sam Raimi will be overseeing the development of the movie over the next several months with expectations that he will move on to film Warcraft after he wraps Spider-Man 4 next year for Columbia Pictures. Warcraft got its start as a series of real-time strategy games for the PC, before being adapted as the immensely popular World of Warcraft MMORPG (which, it's worth noting, is not the title of this movie). Warcraft is set in the fantasy world of Azeroth, in which two powerful factions, the Alliance and the Horde, are pitted against each other, sometimes in all out war and more recently in a sort of cold war stalemate (World of Warcraft). What exactly the story will be about is unknown, especially since, with Raimi's involvement, it appears that the previous scripts might be thrown out as screenwriter Gary Whitta is now off the project. All of the Warcraft games are very dependent upon story, and have created a dense lore and mythology which offers enough material for several epic movies.
The story possibilities for this film are endless, it has more than a good history and storyline to rival the action and medievil fanatsy of Lord of the Rings. It is time to bring back the battle hero movie. Why not also remake The Beastmaster - I loved that film. Whoever scores these roles will be world famous so make them good goddamnit. And for heavens sake please make Spiderman 4 better than the last one Raimi - otherwise I will live in fear at what you will do with WOW (World of Warcraft). This could turn into one of the biggest film franchises of all time if handled correctly.
Bring it on and DIE HORDE. The pics used in this article are screen grabs of my own character taken from the game. Alliance all the way

TWPY - the storielines would be brilliant. There is more backstory and culture than most films and characters are already so defined. I am looking forward to this immensely!!

They won't recreate the whole story but there are endless possibilities of what they can do. From what I have read it looks like they will start with Warcraft. I would make it from one race's point of view and then meet characters along the way. I don't know all the back story but if they do it good they could make a great adaption of this. Besides they could make numerous films from the source material.
I am going to stay positive until I see it. I hope it's good so we can have lots of Wow Films.

My second fear is that they do as you say and play it through one Race side. I.E. The humans. As a HUGE fan of the horde, but I have played both. I am also in fear that they make the Horde out to be the bad guys. For those of you who have played both sides or followed the TRUE story line, know that thats not true. However, I am pretty confident that Blizzard will not let that happen. It at the moment is the only thing I am 95% sure blizzard won't do. I could be wrong, but I think your wrong in that particular case. I think it will be seen more from a mixture of races. Perhaps a bit bouncing back and forth. We shall see soon enough.
There plan is to obviously meet the needs of both people who play the game and those who don't, in the end I hope they stick with the story line at least direct it more towards the game players view not the typical movie critics needs.
In other words.....Please blizzard!! Dont let someone screw this up!
your right though.....they did get a great director. I hope he can pull this one off without screwing it up for us game players who have played wince warcraft 1 thru the World of Warcraft. Those of us true to the story line.
They dont need need to make any adaptions. The story line is beyond perfect and blizzard did an AMAZING job creating this game and continuing it with a great plot. Dont kill it for money, but I know.....its always about the money.
Lets hope your right my Warcraft friends.....im going to cross my fingers you are....and it turns out to be a #1 all time great.

Well said!!
I do hope Blizzard maintains the rights to the film - this would be awesome. Some of the graphics on Warcraft/ WOW are insane so there is no reason they cannot visualise the entire film like the sotrylines in the game - you know the opening bits and Lich King trailer - that was insane!!!
I hope he is a good enough director and that they have the budget to make it as big as it should be. They should go for a trilogy to get all of the main points out there - Blizzard makes enough money - they should be able to self fun the entire film.
Fingers crossed and Druids Forever
