Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. : BEST FILM OF ALL TIME
Category: No Category
When I came out of this film about 90min ago I was shaking with emotion and jubilation and was stumped as to how I could ever write a review to justify just how mind blowing and out of this world this film is. So, I will keep it very brief.

Avatar, Sam Worthington

Do you recall the first time you saw Star Wars as a child, or Lord of the Rings for the younger generation. You thought the film was insanely brilliant and you wanted to enter that universe. Well Avatar is about 2000 times better than the both of them and I am happy to say that no one could ever best my favourite film of all time, Titanic, but I forgot the legend himself who made Titanic, James Cameron. My first words after this film - "200times better than Titanic".

Avatar James Cameron

The world of film just changed in one viewing and while most of you will shake your head at this review and say things like "silly Jason gushing again" - I say shame on you, this film deserves more than gushing - it deserves a sainthood for JC - not Jesus Christ - but close, James Cameron.

I prebooked tickets with Sammy, and the coolest film dudes around, The Cinefools, from www.cinefools.com and we all agreed at the end that we just witnessed one of those film moments that will be with us forever. To see four guys that cannot shut up about film left speachless at the end of a movie is a rare thing.

James Cameron Avatar

Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. More than ten years in the making, Avatar marks Cameron's return to feature directing since helming 1997's Titanic, the highest grossing film of all time and winner of eleven Oscars including Best Picture. WETA Digital, renowned for its work in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and King Kong, will incorporate new intuitive CGI technologies to transform the environments and characters into photorealistic 3D imagery that will transport the audience into the alien world rich with imaginative vistas, creatures and characters.

Avatar James Cameron

To me this film is flawless - it is an exponential ride of superbness - the first scene is brilliant and each scene escalates in perfection and brilliance until your head nearly explodes at the end.The acting is amazing and welcome to the A list Sam Worthington. Sigourney - you will never do wrong and I love you. Zoe - brilliant. The rest of the cast - all worthy of awards. The visuals of this film and the imagination of Cameron's storytelling is what push this film into a new category of film, will anyone every be able to best this piece of work? I don't know - but am confident Cameron will do it with his next film.

This epic film also has the best 3D ever seen on film. It never once uses the effect as a gimmick and instead immerses you into a world of sheer brutality and spiritual beauty that gave all four of us chills and a few tears. Do NOT watch this film on 35mm - it MUST be viewed on the biggest screen you can find and ONLY in DIGITAL 3D.

Believe the hype - this is beyond anything you have ever seen or could imagine. Worth more than any film I have ever reviewed or seen. l bow to St James Cameron.

It's definitely an amazing technical achievment. Sadly the performances are hollow and a one dimensional bad guy (Billy Zane anyone?) bring it down more than a peg or two. It's not the best film of all time... Not even this year... But it's a piece of technical brilliance from a creative genious. 2D prints or DVD won't hold up well at all to repeat viewings...

how could you say that this film was bad....cant u see for the first time that the film was not about acting...it was about taking you to another world like something thats never been done before.....it has become an instant classic...i hope that one day you can sit in front of avatar and watch it without worrying about the acting or the hollowness in each character and just get swept away by it.........this film is absolutely beautiful and i will sit and wait for another 12 years if a film was going to do that to my emotions again

Champ.

I'm afraid I can't concur with your sentiments. Technically - tremendous - but I'm afraid in my books its a case of marketing over substance.

Who else puts out teasers for a film 9 months in advance - I suspect those who need to recoup ga-zillions at the box office.

I respect your right to your opinion as you do others.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comments everyone - boo to the naysayers

Jake - at least you enjoyed it so it can't be that bad

JESUS - you are too funny. You love it really!

Sammy - my viewing partner - I love your passion! Also good to know you have emotions.

Dunk - if you are as excited as I was and you love LOTR and Star Wars and Braveheart - it is possible you may wet yourself with excitement and joy in the cinema.

Raoul - if you had a H in it I would not be offended

MNG - fair enough but you sound like you are prejudging. Have you seen it yet? Because if you have then my apologies. If you haven't I would like to hear your opinion after you have seen it as I think it will be much different. Also the amount of trailers we receive 9 months or more in advance is astounding - well over 50% of all films market that far out.

Thanks peeps - I am heading back to Pandora - this shithole sux - hahahahahaha

Jase, must say , second time around it was no worse, and I picked up on moments I missed, quite spectacular .

Still, everyone I spoke to agreed it was MASSIVELY over hyped and didnt see wat the fuss was about.

Anywho, ENJOY PANDORA, i hope you return

Jason, so am I to assume I've offended you? Alrighty then ... Your review is utterly, shamelessly ghay.

Feel better?

Jesus - that is very odd and we must travel in very different circles because everyone I speak to absolutely loves it and considers it brilliant.

I don't think it has been overhyped - I just think people are making it as such due to it being the most expensive film, being in the making for 12yrs and because it has really cool smurfs in it

Raoul - not offended but taken as though you were having a "dig" from my Total Randomness article last week.

I have to say I saw Avatar on Thursday evening and I absolutely loved every single second of it. Visually it was spectacular, I loved the storylines and the acting.

I whole-heartedly agree with you Jason, this is by far and away the best movie of the year. Now, keep in mind I also thought Zombieland was hysterical and a good way to spend a Thursday evening so my judgment may be a bit iffy.

In all seriousness, I really am not a fan of James Cameron and had no interest in seeing this movie. I saw it because it was the only movie starting for 90 minutes and I saw it in 2D. For a film that went for 3 hours - or close enough - it felt as though I'd just sat down in the cinema and it was over. I felt like I was there, transported to a faraway world and a part of what was going on with the characters. I am so glad all the other movies were starting later.

Best movie of the year by far. At least that's what I think.

Yay Virgin Traveller!!

And I am yet to complete by Zombieland review but it was funniest movie of the year for me and even thought it was better than The Hangover We probs have very similar tastes in film.

AND OMG - you HAVE to watch this in 3D - as it was made to be watched - if you can get to Imax DIG at EQ (Fox Studios) your movie viewing world will change forever - just sensational!!!

You maybe happy to know that it is possible that this is the first of a 3 film trilogy - so fingers crossed, I just hope we don't have to wait 12yrs for the next installment.

Have a good one!

Oh, Jason,
Have no fear - I am with you!

At the end of the film, I was quite literally a puddle in the chair, tears pouring down my face (they threatened lots of times but the moment when Neytiri loses her dragon and the scary cat beast lets her ride it broke the dam) and I couldnt move, just couldnt get up. My boyfriend goes, "Yeah, that was alright" I stuttered, "Alright?! Alright!? I feel like I just had ten orgasams at once!"
