Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)

Avatar is Pocahontas and It's Dances with Wolves and so on

: Still the best movie ever
Category: No Category
All I keep hearing is that Avatar is not Avatar - it is Braveheart, it is Pocahontas, it is Dances with Wolves etc etc.

Avatar, Sam Worthington, James Cameron

Well, friend, Dan Maher sent me this and I did get a good chuckle. He knows I love Avatar and just bought a Mac and he is a big PC advocator so this is his revenge - I hope.

Avatar Pocahontas

I just hope you can read it on Orble - if not try right clicking and selecting "SHOW PICTURE". It should then be large enough to read. Or just click on the picture itself.

Also a big thankyou to Matt Bateman who did this.

It shamelessly steals from so many movies, yet at the same time feels entirely innovative and unique. Cameron, who spent four years alone developing the camera used for the 3D motion capture and also was hands-on on all the production design, etc, is certainly a ferociously talented filmmaker, yet he still falls prey to basic trappings of storytelling, characterisation, and even worse, he manages to illicit some truly wooden performances from almost all his leads, 'cept Zoe (Ney'tiri) who delivers an Oscar-worthy one (of course she'll get snubbed 'cos she's under all that CGI and she bears her [CGI] breasts which will alienate the prudish old Academy boys).
The Terminator and Aliens are better movies overall than Avatar.
However it's the first movie I've seen twice in less than a fortnight, since Pulp Fiction.

I actually think it is close to impossible to have original script and story ideas now. Nearly every film has a similar story out there.

But what he does with the story is spectacular. I agree that Zoe is astounding - to think she has come so far from that dancing prat in Centre Stage

Aliens and Terminator are also in my top 10 - but then JC is my JC

Glad you liked it - you have been watching it in 3D yes?

Yeah, well there are only seven or so stories out there, and yeah, they've been telling the same ones over and over and over for years ... Star Wars wasn't the most original plot in the universe, but its characterisations and storytelling were superior to Avatar, and superior score and production design too. Still, Avatar is like a really good joyride, you just wanna get back in the queue for another go!

Sheesh, I remember having to review Centre Stage years ago for Revolver magazine ... what a load of bollocks that was!

Of course I've been watching it in 3D, do you think I'm stupid?!
