Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. Life As We Know It (5/10)

: Josh Duhamel is HOT!!!
Category: Reviews
In the romantic comedy "Life as We Know It," Holly Berenson (Katherine Heigl) is an up-and-coming caterer and Eric Messer (Josh Duhamel) is a promising network sports director. After a disastrous first date, the only thing they have in common is their dislike for each other and their love for their goddaughter, Sophie. But when they suddenly become all Sophie has in the world, Holly and Messer are forced to put their differences aside. Juggling career ambitions and competing social calendars, they'll have to find some common ground while living under one roof.

What is up with Katherine Heigl? Is she trying to become Jennifer Aniston? We saw scope and talent when watching her on Grey's Anatomy and we all know she has range as an actor but again she picks another Drew Barrymore styled film. It is shitting me to tears - take a leap you fool and step out of your comfort zone.

Now that is off my chest there is one thing I will say, the chemistry in this film is sensational. Heigl and Duhamel make a brilliant onscreen couple and they are just beautiful together - if it wasn't for the two of them this would go straight to DVD or not even be made.

Katherine Heigl, Josh Duhamel, Josh Lucas

Heigl pretty much plays the same character she has played over and over again and Duhamel steps out of action and plays master pick up man who discovers settling down might not be that bad. One thing i noticed about him in this film is just how bloody good looking he is - I couldn't keep my eyes off him.

One thing that really bugged me about the film is that there was hardly any grief at the loss of their two friends, it was so brief that you could even miss it. They had both just lost their two best friends and the morning after they are smiling and leaning towards comedy.

And then the film wanders into cliched boring pooh jokes and as opposed to Three Men and a Baby it became two misfits and a baby. I did find a lot of the film actually enjoyable but nothing special - most of it had been done before and the only thing that kept me in the cinema was watching Heigl and Duhamel and imaging them as a real life couple.

The film is directed by Greg Berlanti who has come mainly from TV and has directed Dawson's Creek Eps, Everwood Eps, Brothers and Sisters Eps and a few more Tv shows. This is where half the problem of the movie comes from. In a one and a half hour movie you need it to be punchy and take leaps and bounds, you can't make up for it next week.

My next issue would be from the writer or writers in this case, Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson, Ian is a newcomer having assisted on things like The Simpsons and The Tracy Ullman Show and Kristin is his writing partner with this being her first listing on IMDB. I think they played it safe on their first feature outing and this let the film down. Sure it's enjoyable and has lots of great moments but really the whole thing is flat.

The film is out now and while I have bitched a bit about it, as it is pretty much romcom by numbers, there are plenty films that you could do worse watching. Killers, Heigl's last film that not even Ashton Kutcher could save was woeful compared to this. GUYS - you will hate it - this film screams chick flick and I think its best crowd will be from Mum's and Bub's screenings where they can have their babies there enjoying the cuteness of it all with them. Worth 5 out of 10.
