Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. Satan's Spawn Entered My Lair

: Die Thieves
Category: No Category
Sorry I have not been online for a week now. I had the joy of coming home to find out that someone broke into my house and stole my baby, my friend and my connection to the internet.

That's right ladies and gents, I got burgled by Satan's spawn and they stole my computer, my 5 month old 27" Mac. My pride and joy and pretty much my partner in life, for now, how sad I am. All gone and they wiped everything clean, not a print in the house.

Ironically this all occurred on the same day I was pricing a 2TB external hard drive so I could back everything up. I had just completed transferring all my pics and graphic designs from my PC to the Mac and now they are all gone.

I have been depressed all weekend and basically have locked myself inside moping at this atrocity.

burglary, robbery

But today I got closure - the insurance company approved my claim and are replacing my baby, sadly without all its content

I just wanted to share this with you so you are all a little bit more vigilant on your home's security. I now have a deadlock being installed, I have bought a chain that locks into my actual computer when I get it and this is being set into the wall, I am even pricing a cheap CCTV for the study and lounge room. I am buying a shotgun and have sharpened my cat's claws to fine points. I am also feeding him human flesh from now on so he gets a taste of it. Dark will sort any thieves out from now on.

After speaking to the police and insurance company there have been a high number of these robberies with the same M.O. and it appears that they are door knocking and if you answer they give you some bullshit spiel. If you don't answer they then know they have a home for the taking. I have letterboxed a note to everyone in my street and they have been great support and one good thing has come from this, our local community has come together and if anything, I hope this creates a better neighbourhood watch.

I curse all thieves and cannot believe they have no care for the little guy. I am not rich, I work my ass off to have what little I have and I keep out of trouble and try to live a good life, I, nor anyone deserves this shit.

Be careful and secure your things people, don't let this happen to you. If you have anything valuable record your serial numbers and if you own a Mac and it ever gets stolen then call Mac and get them to place it in their database as stolen - if anyone EVER calls for service they have to provide the serial number and then red flags go off. It won't happen overnight but I am confident the kharma cab is coming for these assholes for a one way trip back to Satan's hole in the ground.

Dude...am so sorry this happened. My husband is paranoid about this sort of thing. He has everything backed-up to the last strand of hair. I used to look at him as if he were crazy but now I understand.

Glad things are looking up and I hope they catch the bastards!

Thanks Deni - it is woeful. I never realised how much my computer meant to me until it got stolen.I will be backing up to the last strand of hair from now. It was a weird robbery - they only targeted my Mac and left a $4000- camera stitting next to it plus my IPod on the bench. There has been a lead or two so the police are following it up. Fingers crossed.

Hey mate, so sorry to hear that. Burglary is such a distressing violation. I remember our home being burgled when I was young and we'd been on holiday by professional thieves who went straight to the master bedroom and ransacked it and found my mother's hidden stash of priceless heirloom jewelery. She was devastated. They never recovered it even though the police were familiar with the culprits. Ever since then I've lived with deadlocks.
The fact that your thieves didn't bother with the camera or ipod is a concern, makes you wonder what kind of agenda they actually had.
The fact that you hadn't managed to back stuff up is the most upsetting I know. This whole digital system we are living our lives by more and more concerns me. Compact and convenient, but also makes us prone to this kind of disaster. I just read an article yesterday about people who are getting read of almost all their possessions so all they have is a computer, an iphone, an ipad and that's about it. The collector in me freaks out at that kind of minimalist lifestyle.
Once again, I offer my condolences.

Hey Jason, I feel for you buddy.

I was victim to a nasty pick pocket in France once, who took every cent I had in the world. I was stuck in a foreign country where I didnt speak the language without a cent on me, and I had just cashed my travelers cheque's the day before. A thoroughly traumatic experience which still haunts me, sorry to hear that you lost all the precious contents on your computer too.

Thanks heaps Bryn/ Shaun.

That sux about your mum's jewellery Bryn - I remember a similar incident when I was really young. We came home from holidays and found one of the glass panels on the door smashed in - we then found on our white carpet blood everywhere - the stupid moron slashed his wrist putting it through the glass panel - he was caught thanks to the hospital records And he did not steal anything but it was a scary violation of your private home.
Both the cops and the insurance co. have said that they have had a lot of similar breakins where only computers have been taken. I did have one friend suggest it was my Orble competitors trying to get me offline And the police asked me if I had sensitive information regarding the government on the computer. So, unless my reviews are sensitive to the government I am going to stick with a possible junie wanting $$$$. And I am with you re the minimalist lifestyle - I couldn't cope. Thanks for your message.

Holy crap Shaunk - that would scare the shit out of me - mine is nothing to your predicament - and glad you got back to Australia in one piece

Hey Jason - no need to compare which is worse etc - the thorn the pricks you is always the worst, although thanks for the tea and sympathy

One thought I did have a second ago though was that you'd be amazed at how a really bad shock or experience can be instrumental in making one stop sweating the small stuff - after one or two bad things you really just dont give a second thought to the little petty things anymore....although it's better to not have the bad thing happen in the first place....

I couldn't imagine the predicament you were in Shaun. For me it wasn't a thorn that pricked me - it was a prick that stole from me

I have been devastated by my small loss but then I see the flooding overseas and the millions of people now made homeless and my perspective on life alters. Yeah, my computer is a big chunk of my life but I do have a roof over my head and a slightly larger than required belly hahahahaha

And hopefully my replacement computer will be here within a week. My increased security is also quite impressive
