The battle of the hotties is about to begin. We have Taylor Lautner hitting the screens at the moment in TWILIGHT ECLIPSE where he is still doing his first mega film franchise and coming out on July 30th we have Zac Efron in his second "trying to be serious and talented" post mega franchise film role Charlie St. Cloud. Sammy asked me the other day "Taylor or Zac? You can only choose one" - I have been giving this some serious thought and honestly Zac wins hands down. Not only has he already been through his discovery and training grounds on High School Musicals but he, at this stage of his career, is a damn fine actor and can rely more on his skills as opposed to his looks. It also helps that him and my acting GOD Leonardo DiCaprio are talking to each other and Zac is gaining insight from Leo on choosing film roles. Something Leo is a genius at.
Charlie St. Cloud is based on an acclaimed novel and follows a young man and accomplished sailor, Charlie St. Cloud (Zac Efron), who survives an accident that lets him see the world in a unique way. Charlie has the adoration of his mother Claire (Kim Basinger) and little brother Sam (newcomer Charlie Tahan), as well as a college scholarship that will lead him far from his sleepy Pacific Northwest hometown. But his bright future is cut short when a tragedy strikes and takes his dreams with it.
This film looks great, it has action, romance, sadness, sympathy, love and mystery and I can't wait - I doubt it will take the box office of Eclipse but after a mega promoted franchise Efron now needs to build his credibility - and this film is one I think will keep him on the path. I have just bought the book and will be reading it prior to July 30th.
