WARNING: THERE IS A MAJOR SPOILER IN THE COMMENTS - DO NOT READ THEM UNLESS YOU KNOW THE STORY
CONVICTION is the inspirational true story of a sister's unwavering devotion to her brother. When Betty Anne Water's (two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank) older brother Kenny (Sam Rockwell) is arrested for murder and sentenced to life in 1983, Betty Anne, a Massachusetts wife and mother of two, dedicates her life to overturning the murder conviction. Convinced that her brother is innocent, Betty Anne puts herself through high school, college and, finally, law school in an 18 year quest to free Kenny. With the help of best friend Abra Rice (Academy Award nominee Minnie Driver), Betty Anne pores through suspicious evidence mounted by small town cop Nancy Taylor (Academy Award nominee Melissa Leo), meticulously retracing the steps that led to Kenny's arrest. Belief in her brother - and her quest for the truth - pushes Betty Anne and her team to uncover the facts and utilize DNA evidence with the hope of exonerating Kenny.
All I can say is WOW - this looks powerful and another Oscar boat for Swank and a possible Oscar for Rockwell. The cast is just brilliant and I cannot wait for its October 15th release. It is directed by Tony Goldwyn who has only really directed TV shows up until now but has acted in numerous TV shows and movies over the years with his most memorable being as the bad guy in Ghost.

The real life story is an intriguing one and I just hope they follow through with the true outcome.

"The Blind Side", religious propaganda? I've never thought that at all. It was very tame.
I am skeptical about her (Sandra Bullock) Oscar win... I liken it to Julia Robert's win for Erin Brockovitch, which (IMO) was completely overrated.
So far, Hilary hasn't hit the early Oscar Buzz network. I think the trailer will be better than the movie - and relies heavily on the premise.

Disagree re Brokovich - just loved it - but I love Roberts so that would have an effect.
Will wait and see re Conviction - looks great for me.

Ugh - I'd chose Twohy over Erin any day.

My source says it's not set in stone yet...but it could be coming.
