Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)

: Much Better than I was Expecting
Category: Reviews
You will either love this type of film or you will scream hatred at it. I think films like this, Blair Witch, Cloverfield have an appeal similar to being hypnotised. Either you can be or you can't be. It is up to you to suspend your disbelief and become a guitar string. A guitar string you say? What hashish are you smoking? No seriously - these films are about winding you really tight with suspense that you will either allow you to be wound up tight or you will sit in the cinema annoying other patrons by yelling out "BORING". Once the film has wound you so tight it will just let out a disturbingly violent strum on the guitar and you will twang with your own fear.

Tod Williams, Katie Featherston, Paranormal Activity 2

And twang I did - about four times in the film. One time I jumped so high Mitch, friend who watched with me, laughed non stop for about ten minutes. Mitch took to the suspense differently. We both loved the movie, but Mitch is just a wee bit evil so every time the build up was getting to the point of twang this big evil smile would cover his face as he knew it was coming. And like a high of happiness, or sadness, a high of fear has a similar effect on the human body. It is a bit like a drug or a flooding of adrenaline throughout the body, you can't beat it

I was expecting nearly nothing from this film. I thought it was a one horse wonder, and how on Earth could they do it again. And they managed to do it quite successfully by pretty much recreating the first film, allowing the tension to build a bit longer and then strumming the shit out of the guitar . I also loved how they tied it to the first film. This is kind of a prequel and a sequel all tied into one. The family that has a visitor in this one is the sister of the main girl from the first film. It starts before the events from Paranormal Activity and involves the original cast as well. It also successfully develops parts of the story from the first film that were not explained that much but they do it again and only give you the slightest bit extra of information. The story continues onto the events from the first film and then continues on a little bit.

Tod Williams, Katie Featherston, Paranormal Activity 2

If you hated the first film then you will hate this one - no doubt in my mind. If you enjoyed and could get into the first one then you want to see this one, you need to see this one.

The success of these films is the realism and sense of watching a reality show, as you are pretty much watching most of the film of stand alone still cameras being used for security in the houses. To make up for the other shots one character is camera crazy and home shoots everything. This works.

Tod Williams, Katie Featherston, Paranormal Activity 2

As usual they don't release any cast credits to stick with the "these events really took place" but I do know the lead lady in this one - I have seen her before but for the life of me I cannot think of her name. The acting is all top notch, you can believe that they are going through this, for real. And for once I actually enjoyed an inanimate object as a character. The pool cleaning machine is kick ass - it is in quite a few scenes and I really wanted it to be the first victim

Love it or hate it this film will make money and there is definitely room for another one, as just like the first one, it is left wide open. It is out now and I would give it a scary 7 out of 10.

Saw bits and pieces of this the other day - and I'm in two minds.

I'm hoping it winds me up tighter than an clock spring.
