Final Destination 4 ($7-)
I never thought they would make another Final Destination. The first one starring Casper all grown up, Devon Sawa, was a huge success and a film I absolutely loved. The idea that death was after you added to the thrilling creativity of how all those things combined to kill people was awesome to watch.
And this is the ONLY thing that has kept the franchise alive, the methodically organised methods of death coming to claim his cheated prize. I found each of the sequals has gotten worse on a massive degree with the only worth of watching the films is how the crap-acting stars will get slaughtered.
On what should have been a fun filled day at the races, Nick O'Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave... escaping seconds before Nick's frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they've cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As his premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one in increasingly gruesome ways Nick must figure out how to cheat death once and for all before he, too, reaches his final destination. The film marks the latest in the highly popular Final Destination series, and its first 3D installment, giving horror fans an especially visceral thrill ride. Thanks Warner Bros for this synopsis.
The plot has never changed and the only thing keeping this one alive is the amazing 3D visuals of some of the gorey deaths. I found the opening sequence a 3D viewing pleasure but it was still nothing on the opening of the first one.
Thank god the stars are extremely good looking because their acting is so appalling I was chanting for death to come and claim them before I slashed my wrists and went to him first. Bobby Campo was the only exception - I think his acting needs work but I would watch another film with him in it. I don't know if this is because he had talent or I was lusting after him and would forgive all so I could watch him until the credits rolled. Shantel VanSanten ... Lori Milligan and Nick Zano were so bad I would have gladly sorted them out for Death myself
.
David R. Elliss, the director and former stuntman, has a list of B Grade films under his belt with Snakes on a Plane, Final Destination 2 and Cellular being his most notable but how he could not fathom how bad this was I will never understand. The script is woeful, the direction shoddy and the story bringing nothing new to the frahnchise. Why on earth they haven't confronted a shaman to battle death I will never know? I think the only thing that will put bums on seats in this one is the fact you get to see people die in hideous ways and watch beautiful people try to say two syllable words that they probably don't understand. It will help for teenagers that you get to see most of the lead actors 90% naked and this is what held it together for me. Campo is HOT but someone PLEASE pay for these actors to obtain lessons!!
The use of 3D in this film is impressive and it is the first time I have thoroughly enjoyed to its full extent. It uses the gimmick of 3D and throttles it up for some fun filled deadly things flying from the screen.
Out now in 3D and while the 3D is great and the death scenes got me clapping the rest is painful. Worth $7- only because of said hot Campo and death's methods of collecting his treasure.
