Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. Fired Up ($9-)

Shawn (Nicholas D'Agosto) and Nick (Eric Christian Olsen) are top scorers on the Ford High School football team…both on and off the field. When they hatch a scheme to trade their footballs for pom poms and join the school’s most beautiful girls at cheer camp, the new team members actually give the girls’ historically awful cheer squad a chance at success. And when Shawn falls for the head cheerleader (Sarah Roemer), the boys must learn some new moves and unleash their inner spirit to prove their intentions before the all-important cheer competition finals. --© Sony Pictures

You have seen one cheerlearder movie you have pretty much seen them all. But this film also surprisingly kept me and everyone I watched it with entertained for it's duration. It's kind of a vintage college comedy film that has some decent low brow comedy delivered mainly by the two succesful leads, Nicholas D'Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen. It is stupid, it is senseless and to me this was the attraction. It doesn't for one second take itself for more than what it is and this is where it's success lies. Nick D'Agosto has had his run of many TV shows over recent years with a running part in Heroes, guest parts on House, ER, 6 ft Under, The Office, Cold Case and many more. He plays the more sensible of the two guys who falls in love and decides to fall for one lady as opposed to trying to screw all of them. Sony states the guys trade their footballs for pom poms but never mentions they do it because they want to get constantly laid. Nick D'Agosto plays his part very well and I think we will see more of him. I would prefer to see him in a good drama film than in this kind of comedy.

Whereas Eric Christian Olsen is such a goose he is made for a life of comedy roles. You may remember him as the younger Lloyd in Dumb and Dumberer as well as parts in Eagle Eye, Beerfest and Cellular. He does drama ok but his comic timing is flawless and I would very like to see him playing the brother of Owen Wilson in a film. They remnd me so much of each other. He plays the college goose who can get any chick he wants but eventually grows a heart and love for poetry. He also has some gay characters after him in the film.

John Michael Higgins (US Kath and Kim, and US The Office) is absolutely hysterical as the crazy coach who has lost his marbles and the love interest in the film, Sarah Roemer (Disturbia), plays her part fine. Although for some reason her character goes from stupid bimbo to sexy girl to Lisa Simpsonesque nerd. She needed to mould those character types together to come up with her own character not play three distinct characters in the one (if that makes sense ) depending on what the scene required.

I think what lets the film down is a lack of good cheerleading presentation - it concentrates so hard on the comedy that there is not that much great cheerleading - there is some ok stuff towards the end however they realistically pulled it out of the hat. I also found some of the comedy so silly that it made me cringe. But these cringes were few and far between with some exceptional comedy. There is one scene I found the movie worth watching for. An open aired screening of the GOD of cheerleading films to all the cheerleaders...Bring It On. Every single cast member was quoting the movie line for line and I was crying with laughter. It was a very nice touch. Another great scene was the naked cheerleading scene between the two guys who get caught out without their clothes. They have some very strategic pom pom placement - well choreographed

With not many good comedies out for the rest of the school holidays and with some hot looking cheerleaders and football guys in it I can actually see this going quite well. It is definately not a comedy to completely write off. Worth $9-

LOL - I didn't recommend it just wouldn't write it off. Better than expected. Richard Wilkins is gutless anyway
