The original Tron was years ahead of itself and an innovative look at a man trapped and doing battle for his life inside a computer. This looks like a similar story. It's about a "virtual world" worker who tries to take down the "evil" corporation.
Sean Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is the 20-something son of Tron protagonist Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), whose curiosity about his father's disappearance leads him to the now-abandoned site of Kevin's old arcade. Inside the old building, Sean is transported into the Computer World and embarks on an adventure in which he learns what has happened to his father, and of the shocking new threat to the Computer World.
Joseph Kosinski is directing the film, while the previous film director, Steven Lisberger, returns as a producer. Kosinski is pretty much an unknown director. Online debate is claiming he was hired as he is a) probably a lot cheaper than an established dirtector and b) it has something to do with his visual style. He has directed two well known ads. One for the game Halo and the other for the game Gears of War. With this visual style for gaming he might be the perfect choice for this film. Fingers crossed, although it doesn't explain that they showed the rough version of this trailer at Comic Con in 2008 and then took one year to have a high def polished version of the exact same trailer for release this year at Comic Con 2009. I will try and have faith in him until I see the completed film as he is already in pre production for the remake of Logan's Run which will go full steam ahead come the release of Tron Legacy.
It is great to see Jeff Bridges back - I love him as an actor and he is someone I have grown up with since a kid. This version looks much more slick and sharp and with CGI and technology these days they could make this a very enjoyable viewing. One great thing is that this film will also release in DIG 3D - so if you are making a film which will be 95% CGI - the possibilities of then making it in DIG 3D has me very excited.

I am really looking forward to this one - I was really young when the original one came out so am keen to see what they do with it with all the available technology now. And YES to Imax 3D - as long as it's real Imax and not the new faux Imax's popping up.

I hadn't heard of the faux IMAX experience? Sounds curious ...
The trailer has a slightly dark element to it, but I'm sure the movie won't be anything higher than a PG-13, if that.
Seems Jeff is enjoying the big beard these days.
And yes, this could be the first thing we've agreed on ... LOL ... Although I did enjoy Star Trek a lot, although I wouldn't go as far as calling it "perfect"

This could be monumental if it matches the promise of this footage. The bikes, oh my lord the bikes, the velocity and fluidity....
Bringing Jeff back just makes it all the more exciting.
