B Grade Horror that Could have been so much better!!
Category: Trailers
OK - I have another giveaway thanks to the kind people at ICON. This one I watched a little while back and I am a bit wishy washy on this one.
It was made as a film called After Dark they Come (although that doesn't make sense because they are out during the day as well). Then released as The Tribe and then it was changed to The Lost Tribe and now it is being released on DVD as a film called The Forgotten Ones. My god - make up your mind! I even confused myself and may have the titles out of order
.
When a devastating boat crash shipwrecks a group of friends in the jungles of an uncharted island, they are savagely picked off one-by-one by a cannibalistic enemy that evolution forgot. A horrifying action-adventure in the vein of Predator and Lost. Written & directed by Jorg Ihle. Starring Marc Bacher, Justin Baldoni, Nikki Griffin, Kellan Lutz & Jewel Staite.
The film, I am sure, is purely getting a release because Kellan Lutz is in it and he has become quite the sort after spunk thanks to his role in the Twilight Saga. The film was made in 2009 and is only getting a straight to release now. Lutz isn't even the lead but for some reason the new DVD has him as the headliner and also Jewel Staite as she was in Serenity.
The film had sooooooooooooooo much potential. It headed in the direction of The Descent, except it lacked direction, a good script and characters you don't want to kill yourself.
I loved the slurpy sounds over the opening credits
I also loved the cinematography - it was quite a saviour because at least it looked good. And then there was the make-up - it is thoroughly impressive.
What I hated was the script - embarrassingly woeful and actually had me laughing at it a few times. I was also mortified in the opening water scenes - they are on a boat sailing and all the distant shots have them sailing with wind and waves - when the camera moves in for dialogue you will notice that the boat isn't moving and they are obviously anchored - horribly embarrassing.
The acting is also pretty bad. Surprisingly Lutz and Staite are the saving grace and capable of delivering lines. The lead guy, Justin Baldoni was so bad I wanted to murder him myself. He has the nicest abs but his most impressive role is on The Bold and the Beautiful. So baddddd.
The film is like a wine - it does get better with time and gets better scene by scene and turns into this Descent like horror hell. But for me it never quite makes it.
If you like B Grade horrors, Kellan Lutz or The Descent then you could quite possibly like this.
I think it's worth 3 out of 10 but if you want to find out for yourself be one of the first 3 people to email me at jkdigitaldesigns@gmail.com and tell me the character Lutz plays on Twilight. I have three copies to give away and I am sorry but this is only available for my Australian readers.
Lutz is damn fine
Have a great day ladies and gents!!
