Ghosts of Girlfriends Past ($4-)
Celebrity photographer Connor Mead (MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY) loves freedom, fun and women...in that order. A committed bachelor with a no-strings policy, he thinks nothing of breaking up with multiple women on a conference call while prepping his next date.
Connor's brother Paul is more the romantic type. In fact, he's about to be married. Unfortunately, on the eve of the big event, Connor's mockery of romance proves a real buzz-kill for Paul, the wedding party and a houseful of well wishers -- including Connor's childhood friend Jenny (JENNIFER GARNER), the one woman in his life who has always seemed immune to his considerable charm.
Just when it looks like Connor may single-handedly ruin the wedding, he gets a wake-up call from the ghost of his late Uncle Wayne (MICHAEL DOUGLAS), the hard-partying, legendary ladies man upon whose exploits Connor has modeled his lifestyle. Uncle Wayne has an urgent message for his protege, which he delivers through the ghosts of Connor's jilted girlfriends -- past, present and future -- who take him on a revealing and hilarious odyssey through a lifetime of failed relationships.
Together, they will discover what turned Connor into such a shameless player and whether he has a second chance to find -- and this time, keep -- the love of his life.
New Line Cinema presents a Jon Shestack/Panther Production of a Mark Waters Film: Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in the romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. The film also stars Breckin Meyer, Lacey Chabert, Robert Forster, Anne Archer, Emma Stone and Michael Douglas.

Executive producers are Marcus Viscidi, Mark Waters, Jessica Tuchinsky, Toby Emmerich, Cale Boyter and Samuel J. Brown, with Ginny Brewer as co-producer. The creative team includes director of photography Daryn Okada, production designer Cary White, editor Bruce Green and costume designer Denise Wingate. Music is by Rolfe Kent. Executive music producer is Ralph Sall.
I had the early morning mother's day choice of seeing this film or Defiance and BOO me. What a hideous choice. But it was a cold morning and I wanted something very light hearted. But OMG - this film is so bad it should have gone straight to DVD. Matthew McConaughey I normally like but of late I have to say he is an egomaniacal lazy actor. He can act, he is good looking and he can be charming, then why all these horrible comic romances? He is capapble of so much more and he just couldn't be bothered or cannot get past the auditions due to typecasting. He missed out to Leo in Titanic and if he had succeeded then his career could have taken a different turn but everything he is in now is B grade comedy with romance involved where he is a super attractive womaniser. Get over it Matt and do some action with serious acting involved. When he first appeared in The Pelican Brief I was like "Wow - this guy can go far". It's not happening.
I have always loved Jennifer Garner since the first episode of Alias and she can do no wrong in my eyes - but she did make the mistake of being in this film. But as she has recently had a child maybe she also wanted something light to do that would keep her safe. I would really like her in more action type films and after the action she pulled out in Alias I think that when they do come around to making Wonderwoman that they should seriously consider her. It's not called Wonder"some hot young waify model" - it's WonderWoman and Jen is all woman for me. She is one of the few women I would turn for. Hahahahaha. Also - what about an Alias film JJ - you can do it!!
It was nice to see Micheal Douglas in this and he suits the Ghost role perfectly. The film is yet another retelling of A Christmas Carol and is done poorly. But Micheal Douglas holds his own in it and is one of the redeeming characters of the film. But the person who owns this film and is going to rock the comedy film world for years to come is Emma Stone. She is just bloody hysterical and is the reason this film gets two of its $4- score. She has been treading the comedy floorbaords for a few years now with some great performances in Superbad, The Rocker (I loved this film) and The House Bunny. In this she actually plays the Ghost of Grilfriends Past - (she is the one above in the bed next to Matthew). In the film there is this ghost, the Ghost of Girlfriends Present (admirably played by Noureen DeWulf) and The Ghost of Girlfriends Future (who is so beautiful they don't let her speak, perhaps because that may ruin her beauty
) and you don't even remember the others because of Emma Stone, she doesn't ever play on her beauty, she gets into her character and has so much fun with it that you actually enjoy it.
The film has limited humor, basically no charm and one of its major fails is that Connor Meade is just an asshole - why the film plays up to a manwhore being a hero is just beyond me. The film gets $2- for Emma Stone, $1- because Micheal Douglas is a legend and $1- because I love Jen. Haha. Worth $4- and out now.
