Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. GI Joe ($12-)

: WAY BETTER THAN I EXPECTED

GI Joe ($12-)

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, whose previous collaboration was the worldwide blockbuster TRANSFORMERS, join forces with Spyglass Entertainment for another action-adventure, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. From the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite G.I. JOE team uses the latest in next-generation spy and military equipment to fight the corrupt arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious Cobra organization to prevent them from plunging the world into chaos. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns). Thanks Paramount

Gi Joe Channing Tatum

I had heard nothing but bad things about this movie. Critics not invited anywhere in the world to view it, scenes copying Transformers, it's like watching a cartoon, characters have emotional depth of an inanimate rod (thanks Homer) and that basically it is shit.

GI Joe Sienna Miller

Well, yes, if you go into this film to tear chunks out of it and don't have an open mind then yes - you will think most of these things. But what I saw was a good old fashioned action sci film with limited plot, that is credible, and acting that is at times so bad that it's good. This is B Grade Sci Fi that George Lucas would have got a boner over in the early 70's. It even has inconsistent CGI that at times looks amazing and at others looks woeful. It is exactly like the Mummy films that director Stephen Sommers makes. He said it was the closest he would get to directing a James Bond movie and most of it is homage to the Bond franchise. One of the cars has a missile launcher, every character name is direct from an early Bond film and it has the evil guy with scars living in an evil lair under the polar icecaps. My god people - this film is gold!!!

GI Joe

It has opposing black and white Ninjas with a history, a cool underwater lair, an evil skanky bitch (masterfully suited to the role Sienna Miller), a hot guy who thankgod he is good looking or Channing Tatum would be broke (his acting is embarassing but he is eye candy) that is based on Tom Cruise in Top Gun, the funny black dude who we all love (Marlon Wayans - 10th youngest sibling form the Wayans clan), and a respected actor playing a B Grade role and pretty much doing it in his sleep. I love Dennis Quaid and he is one of my favourite actors but was surprised to see him in this. But when I read that he did it because his son begged him to as he worshipped GI Joe it all made sense and kudos to him. The cast and crew loved working with him so much they wrote in an extra 15 scenes for him. Originally Duke was written with Mark Wahlberg envisioned however I am actually glad that it went to Tatum as it adds to the B grade - Wahlberg would have been too serious and a mismatch with Wayans.

GI Joe Marlon Wayans

I heard from another person that the film looks so crap and it even rips off Transformers in the street "accelerator pack" scene - well Mr Negative pants this was done on purpose as a tribute because the cinematographer worked on both films and both films are a Paramount production. Speaking of, the said street scene took two weeks to film and is bloody awesome!!

GI Joe Dennis Quaid

If you go into this looking for faults you will get swamped by them but if you think you are going to Movieworld and enjoy strapping in for a ride then you may just end up with a smile on your face. Remember this is a movie made of an action hero figurine, it's not Saving Private Ryan 2, it's a fun over the top sci fi action. I am so glad it is making a fortune as the film ends opening for a sequal and I want to see more. Well worth the fun of $12-.

It definately does not have the intelligence or brilliance of Iron Man Morgan. It does head in the direction of Tomb Raider but it's over the top. You know how you enjoyed The Happening because it was so bad?
Similar - but honestly I throughly enjoyed this and will even buy it on Blu Ray when it comes out.

It's like a live action version of the Thunderbirds and I got excited every Saturday morning as a kid when it came on and this is just as cool.

Sammy - sorry forgot to complete your answer - hmmmmmmmmm - recently I bought Full Metal Jacket on Blu Ray but am selling it - I fell asleep and thought it was lame - will probably cop a hiding for that comment. It's like a Kubrick sleeping pill - except the training - that was AWESOME!! I also bought Ben Button and The Guardian - have been trying to save for the snow. I also ordered the Special Edition 18disc box set of Harry Potter 6 - Hahahahahahaha

Whenever I see the trailer I think it looks like a poopy movie (that's my technical term) and I've avoided it thus far. However, Channing Tatum is quite attractive, and could be worth the price of admission.

Plus, I always poo-poo big action movies, and then I end up enjoying them.

You have pretty much summed it up though Natalina - it is a poopy movie - but it's massive fun.

Channing is HOT - but not sure if worth the full price of admission but he does make the experience better.

Hope you enjoy it!
