Trailer of the Day: Going the Distance

Yay Justin Long

I love Drew Barrymore but am sad/ annoyed she can only do romantic comedies. I am sure she is capable of more but is lazy and does what she knows or perhaps she only gets cast in romantic comedies and studios refuse her for other types of work. BUT - romantic comedies always work for her. They are never mega blockbusters but they always make money.
Justin Long (Die Hard 4, The Mac Guy) is one of my favourite actors of late. I got a crush on him watching the Mac commercials lol and have been following his career since then. I think they will work well together.
The film tells the story of Erin (Barrymore) and Garrett (Long), who fall for each other during a whirlwind summer romance in New York City. Their connection is so strong that they decide to try the long-distance thing after only a couple of months, when Erin has to head back to her home in San Francisco. But they both have their friends and relatives whispering in their ears - Garrett's friend Box (Jason Sudeikis) is tired of his incessant text-messaging, and Erin's sister Corrine (Christina Applegate) worries about the fledgling relationship.
The script was placed on Hollywood's notorious Black List, which names the most popular unproduced screenplays annually. And its director is Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Nanette Burstein, best known for her work on "On the Ropes" and "American Teen."
The thing that could either work extremely well for this film or make it fail miserably is the fact that the two of them are a real life couple. Could the real life they experience together make this a stronger film? We will see - it's a Barrymore romantic comedy - no expectations and plenty of opportunity to be impressed.
This one is releasing in August

While it might be true that other production companies have pigeonholed her in that genre, she can definitely prove them wrong by producing her own tough chick or dramatic movie, she definitely has the means to do that.
