High School Musical 3 ($14-)
High School Musical is the skyrocket star maker for Mr Zac Efron who has basicaly been elevated to god status amongst teenagers and others worldwide since playing Troy Bolton.
It is the highest selling Disney franchise on pay TV ever made and the colorful musical film is going to go ballistic in cinemas with this third and final instalment. If it only makes $200000000- at the box office you can pretty much triple that in DVD sales, merchandise, computer games and now the musical.
This latest sequel follows high school seniors Troy and Gabriella, who are faced with the ultimate prospect of being separated from one another as they go off in different directions after graduating from East High. Joined by the rest of their Wildcat friends, they stage an elaborate spring musical reflecting their experiences, hopes, and fears about the future.
In its first 3 days, High School Musical 3: Senior Year grossed $42 million in North America and an additional $40 million overseas, breaking the record for the largest opening weekend for a musical film. As of yesterday's world figures the film has so far grossed $219,000000.
I am firstly going to complain because I think I need to see a doctor as my ear drums may have burst thanks to a squilion teenagers breaking decibel levels in the cinema every time something great and colorful happened - which was pretty much for the entire film. And OMG - when Troy and Gabriella kissed I think the bessa bricks holding up the cinema may have cracked. But, I have to say, deservedly so - this film kicks ass. It craps all over the first sequel and thanks to the release in cinema with a much bigger budget they got close to being as good as the first film. Everything is bigger, more colorful, superbly choreographed and all HSM! I just loved it, it's the modern day Grease and so camp, colorful and totally theatrical. The theatrical musical releases of these film can be brilliant, but I think the one thing that will be lacking from the musicals will be the amazing cast and god Zac Efron.
Zac is so sweet, cute and downright gorgeous he needs his own ice cream flavour! God, I am a marketing genius - I should copyright this idea tomorrow! But seriously - everyone in the film is outstanding but nearly everyone in the audience is there for Zac, it won't be long and we will get to see Zac in two new films - 17 Again where he is playing the young Matthew Perry who is transported back in time - very Disney, then the big budget remake of Footloose, I am pretty confident his toe tapping will match and go beyond Mr Bacon.
When I was in high school I danced the male lead in the annual Rock Eistedford and I gave up a career as a dancer for numerous reasons. Bullying, being called a fag (who'd have thought
) and general life direction changes. Watching this is a school spectacular and Rock Eistedford wet dream - the sets and colors are out of this world - it's nearly cartoon like and the dancing is just brilliant. My fave is totally the car yard dance. AWESOME!!

High School Musical 3 is not the first film series to start out on TV, then move to a theatrical release. _A Christmas Story (1983)_ had a theatrical realse but it was a sequel to 3 TV movies: "The Phantom of the Open Hearth" (1976), "The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters" (1982), and "The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski" (1983).
This will not be for all but it's like going to really upbeat theatre and thanks to Zac and the crew you may want to burst into dance in the aisles, not something I suggest when in your mid 30's and surrounded by hordes of teenage girls and the only other males are dad's with their young charges. I shudder to think people thought I could be creepy. Well worth the ticket price - worth $14-
