Funniest film of the year so far!

For Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day), the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses (Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston) into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con (Jamie Foxx), the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers... permanently. There's only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.
I had the pleasure of attending the Australian Premiere of this a few weeks back and had an absolute ball with one of my ex staff and now great friend, Tommy Boy. Surprisingly one of my staff actually missed me and kept asking to catch up so I took him along for a surprise premiere - and to top it off we also ate dumplings from heaven at other worldy Din Tai Fung beforehand. We turned up at the Premiere and got to walk the red carpet, that was pretty cool. I was invited to stand on the other side of the barrier and be with the press and interview all the leads for a couple of minutes but I hate the red carpet press - it is hours of waiting for a minute or two and I would much prefer to walk the red carpet and feel super special - that being said I always freak out on the red carpet and pretty much run the length of it as I hate all these people staring at you, of course I also kind of get jealous as no one ever asks for a photo
Frigging conflicting Gemini I am
After we got into the cinema we mingled with the B grade of Australian celebrity for a few minutes then made our way to the seats where we continued to celeb spot well past the notified start time. Then we got the three leads in our cinema introducing the film and talking about the experience. First issue was all the microphones were rooted, hideous sound. Thank god for Jason Sudeikis who alleviated the issue by grabbing two microphones and placing one against his neck and the other he spoke through. He explained the voice one should get his high range, the neck one his low range and he apologised profusely for his lack of mid range - he made the issue seem like a comedy act. Second problem was Jason Bateman - while an incredibly good looking man - he came across as an arrogant prick who thought he was totally wasting his time being present. Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day made up for it though with their abundant humour and welcoming personality. LOVED THEM.
The film itself is a raging success, it is easily this year's Hangover. A superb ensemble comedy with so many brilliant people in it. Out of the leads Charlie Day easily steals the show, his comedy is laugh out loud stuff. I have never seen any of his previous work but so many people keep raving about him I may have to suss it out. But he made the film. As did Jason Sudeikis - the guy is so wrong for his comedy - I look at him and see a boring Dad next door but when he is onscreen in his comedic best he just tears it up and constantly cracks me up.
Then there is Jason Bateman - he did absolutley nothing for me. He is obviously non comedic but through his situations and, of late, casting is ending up in numerous comedic roles. He pulls them off and is attractive enough to gather a huge following but to me his nothing special onscreen.
Then there is the massive ensemble support cast. Kevin Spacey - PURE GOLD - the guy is onfire letting loose in this one. The mum from Modern Family, Julie Bowen, she is just stunning in this role and nearly everything she does. Donald Sutherland is only in it briefly but gotta love the old guy. Then Colin Farrell in his best work as a total dickhead, coke sniffing, lunatic, he steals most of the scenes he is in and that hair piece is a massive win
There is even Jennifer Aniston in her best role also. Her scenes just had me in hysterics - dirty nymphomaniac with no work ethic what so ever. It's GOLD! And even Jamie Foxx has some great funny moments.
All the actors compliment each other so well. The first 30mins of the movie is basically the trailer and I was assuming it would have been all the best bits and then it would be boring as hell, like many comedies - but it just gets better and better. Funniest cocaine scene in a long long time
Seth Gordon's direction is strong. He also directed Four Holidays, which I did not see and the only thing I have seen of his is the episode of Modern Family he directed. But to be able direct a cast of this magnitude is astounding and his achievement, while nothing more than this year's Hangover styled, gross out, politically incorrect comedic gem, is still a momentous achievement. I will definitely keen to see his next work.
Horrible Bosses is out now so get out and watch it - worth a nice 8/10. It's worth seeing it purely for the fact the cast is having so much fun making itand it comes across onscreeen. NICE ONE KIDS!

Some of the comedy does not hit the mark but most of it does - just like Hangover
Have a good one!
