Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)

Horton Hears a Who!

Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!!
I just loved it. Based on the Dr Seuss story of the same name and starring Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, this film is already making millions in the US. $45- million opening weekend. And it's worth it. Carrey plays an elephant that discovers an entire race of minuscule people (the Whos) living in a speck of dust (Whoville) - he can only hear them because of his large elephant ears and no-one believes him so he sets out on a journey to find a safe place for them to live. This brings him nothing but torment by the local animals especially the evil kangaroo voiced by the fabulous Carol Burnett. But nothing will stop him as he sticks to his motto "After all, a person is a person, no matter how small."
My fave character that cracked me up every time it was on screen was this crazy yellow furball thing with HUGE teeth. I also loved JoJo who surprised me at the end when I found out it was Jesse McCartney playing the character. First one of the chipmunks and now a Who - you go kid!!
Carrey and Carell are brilliant doing the voices and at first I wasn't sure who was playing who - they could have easily have swapped roles.
"Horton" ranks as the fifth-biggest G-rated opening of all time. It was also Carrey's best weekend since 2003's "Bruce Almighty."
I do find this more children oriented than say a Shrek film but it is great family fun and would be ideal to take kids of all ages too.
For $16 ticket this one is worth $13-.
