Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs ($11-)
It's back - the whole crew from the first two are back in this third installment of our favourite frozen prehistoric mammals. Manny, Sid, Diego, and Ellie are back in this third film in the computer-animated Ice Age series but this time also in Digital 3D. With those creatures in starring roles, fans also get another dose of the vocal talents of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Queen Latifah, who are joined by Simon Pegg. In this installment, Manny and Ellie are expecting their first baby, while Sid the sloth tries an unconventional way of starting a family that gets him into trouble. With all this talk of babies, Diego might be losing his saber-toothed edge, but a journey to save Sid may just turn the whole group into heroes. In addition to all that adventure, it wouldn't be an Ice Age film if Scrat weren't on a desperate hunt for an acorn, but he might get distracted by a shapely female squirrel.
The first installment I absolutely loved, the second one I thought went straight to video until someone told me today it got a cinema installment - to me it looked so much cheaper and without much budget. This one looks like it had more poured into it than the first two but I think it fits in the middle for my joy factor. The characters are fine. The usuals are the usuals and Sid is getting himself into mischief but he has done that in the first two, in fact all the returning characters are pretty much doing the same thing they have in all the films. Manny and Ellie I found broing and in the film less but this works as some of the new characters are more entertaining. Diaego is just cool. But this time their is Simon Pegg as Buck and he is just hilarious - thanks to Sean for telling me he is based on Johhny Depp's Pirate.
Buck is the saving grace for adults. I found this film low on the adult enjoyment level except for the visuals. It is directed for kids and Mannie and Ellie are all for the kids - Sid appeals to everyone becuase he is the loser we all love. Diaego is the angry old guy we all know and love but Buck is the rogue funny guy hero - the Indiana Jones, Pirate who is a bit nuts like Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. I also want a baby TRex - they are so funny in this one and their rythmic trio of noises had me giggling.
Then there is the coolest of the bunch who never hangs with the gang but always crosses path. The mighty dynamo that will do anything for his acorn - Scrat. I want a full length feature film just of Scrat - I love him. This time there is also Scratte - the evil beyatch who connives for the acorn but may be swayed by Scrat's charm.
Being presented in Digital 3D I was excited to see it in all its glory. But unfortunately I found the Digital 3D did not utilise the possibilities they could do with Digital 3D - sure you get see the characters in Digital 3D but there was limited interactive Digital 3D and this was disappointing. There is one scene, towards the end, flying on the pterodactyls that finally grabbed the extent of where they could push the Digital 3D but I never saw it before this one brief but spectacular Digital 3D scene. It used the interaction of things flying past you quickly and took you on the back of that flying dinosaur.
If you have kids this will become a renewed craze for them and you. You may also enjoy it yourself - it's gotta be better than The Wiggles for the 3000th viewing. Worth $11-. It's out now and is available to watch on film or Digital 3D at selected places.

I don't have any children, but I'm sure I'll get a kick out of this one anyway. Has "Up" come to Australia yet? That's the best animated film I've seen in a very very long time.

UP has not come out here yet, which is odd as a lot of films we seem to be getting two days before the US - I am SO excited for that one. Wall E was one of my favourite films from last year and Happy Feet is one of my fave films and UP looks so cool.
"Can we keep him"
"No"
"But it's a TALKING DOG"
Hahaha = I crack up every time I see the trailer.

I also LOVED Wall E. It became one of my favorite movies of all time. And Happy Feet. Lord I loved that movie! At the end, when people are watching him dance at the zoo, and it goes into that moment where everyone is experiencing the same vibe of harmony, and then it goes into the "In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make" bit...heaven help me, I got misty right now just thinking about it! Now I have to watch it again!

I can't wait - will write a review as soon as we get it released.
I just watched Happy Feet the other night - I bought a copy for my new Blu Ray player. Looks so awesome on Blu Ray. Enjoy it when you watch it again.

Honestly, this Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is quite boring, as I nearly slept during the film!
