Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. : Looks Pretty Good!

I don't know why but I always thought this was starring Nic Cage - no idea why. It looks great, over the top remake of The Crow set in country and western times.

Jonah Hex Movie, Josh Brolin

Based on a famous comic, Jonah Hex is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone - and anything. Having survived death, Jonah's violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the "other side". His only human connection is with Lila, whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own. Jonah's past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can't refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull. But Turnbull, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah's oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead.

I really like Josh Brolin and Malkovich is film royalty to me but Megan Fox, while quite pretty, brings bile up in my throat. Can't stand her, she thinks she is way better than she is. Self promoting Angelina Jolie wannabe. For this it puts a damper on the film for me. But it does look like fun and hopefully I can move past Fox and think of the character when watching.

Wow, I remember reading Jonah Hex comics when I was a boy! I'd completely forgotten about him, but that image of his scarred face just brought it all back!
The movie looks very trashy, but solid popcorn and beer fun!
Reminds me of one of my favourite comic book characters which, as yet, has not been made into either an animated or live action feature: Johnny Alpha, from the 2000 AD strip Strontium Dog, another mercenary.

Totally agree that it's solid popcorn and beer fun - not much more. Looking forward to some fun though!

I had never heard of either of them

Looks good Bryn - give it a year or two and a film will appear. It looks like they are trawling old comics and this looks like a fun one.

Action was a controversial weekly British comic book that was published by IPC Magazines, starting on 14 February 1976.

Concerns over the comic's violent content saw it withdrawn from sale on 16 October 1976. It reappeared the following month, in toned-down form, and continued publication until 12 November 1977, at which point it was merged with Battle Picture Weekly. Despite its short lifespan, Action was highly influential on the British comics scene, and was a direct forerunner of the long-running 2000 AD.

Hook Jaw was created by Mills as a Jaws cash-in and the flagship title of the comic. The strip was scripted by Ken Armstrong and drawn by Ramon Sola. Hook Jaw is a Great White Shark and the hero of the series, even though he spends most of his time eating most of the human cast of characters. The name Hook Jaw comes from the gaff hook stuck in the shark's jaw after some fisherman tried to catch the creature shortly before being eaten by it. Mills gave the strip an environmental edge by having Hook Jaw eat corrupt humans, or criminals, seeking to exploit the seas, as well as anyone else unlucky enough to get near him. Hook Jaw appeared in three stories before the ban. The first was set on an oil rig, the second was set on an island resort in the Caribbean, and the third was set just off the south coast of England. Hook Jaw returned after the ban, but no longer ate as many people and if he did it was off panel. The strip also lost the environmental themes Mills had placed in it.
