Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. Legion (1/10)

: Worst Film of the Year

Legion (1/10)

Legion is this year's The Happening - and this means that for me, so far, it is the worst film made and released this year, it is frigging WOEFUL.

Legion, Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Dennis Quaid, Review

Legion is listed as a supernatural action thriller, and that it is, of the most D Grade type imaginable. In an out-of-the-way diner an unlikely battleground is set for the survival of the human race. Cringeing yet? God loses faith in mankind and sends his legion of angels to bring about the apocolypse. Humanity's only hope lies in a group of strangers trapped in a desert diner with the Archangel Michael. Why why why??

Legion, Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Dennis Quaid, Review

This is one of the worst premises for a film I have seen. Why on earth a pregnant country town desert redkneck is the hope for mankind I will never know - if it was mentioned the girl became pregnant without having sex that would have been it for me and I would have walked out.

Legion, Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Dennis Quaid, Review

Why Paul Bettany, why Dennis Quaid and why Lucas Black? Bettany is usually in decent films with a decent acting part - in this he is shocking, in fact they all are. Were they all in fear of not getting work again and destined for waitering in LA restaurants? I don't think so. In the film you can clearly see on their faces they know it is bad. It's not fear of the apocolypse they are worried about, its fear of the film's release. Dennis Quaid is one of my all time favourite actors, I just love him on film, he was my first choice to play the lead in the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, I would also like to see him in the lead of the US remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - in Legion I saw how bad at acting a great actor can be - completely miscast, he plays a stupid hick with no clue as to what is going on, I was devastated. I had been warned I would loathe this film but when I saw the cast I thought the person who told me must be stupid - boy was I mistaken. I wish I had followed his advice. Also majorly disappointing to me was that one of my fave child actors, Lucas Black was in it - Black was the young kid from the X Files movie, with the cool accent, he was also one of the leads in the Millenium TV show - I have loved watching him on film since he was a kid and also liked him in Friday Night Lights (movie). The film scores 50c because he is in it and it is good to see one of your child actor faves grown up and still giving it a shot - it's a shame because I think his strong accent has held him back from getting other roles.

Legion, Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Dennis Quaid, Review

The film also scores another 50c because I like the idea of pissed off Angels with metallic wings that can cut people in half. But that's it for me. It is more like a zombie film with hideous looking minions coming to attack randoms in a diner. It has no bearing or logical connection with angels coming to exact their wrath on mankind. What also made me laugh was that they left the film open at the end for a sequal - were they smoking crack on set? Fat chance of a sequal ever happening with this story. If it does I will happily eat my words. For a film involving the apocolypse I could much easily imagine this taking place in Rome, The Vatican or New York City. Was the country diner a budget choice? If so = FAIL.

Legion, Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Dennis Quaid, Review

The director, and writer, Scott Stewart has come from a background of Visual Effects, as senior staff, and this film does have some ok effects but his passion for the visual has probably made him blind on plot. His work in visuals is impressive with Iron Man, Pirates Trilogy, Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire and Blade Runner as his highlights. I think he needs to consider sticking to what he does best as this won't be getting him many job offers for the future.

Legion, Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Dennis Quaid, Review

Unless you are going mental for angel films and there is nothing at all available in the local DVD store I wouldn't bother with this one. Predictability, Grand Canyon sized holes in the plot, a script from hell, poor action scenes and two dimensional melodrama is what you are in for. Worth (1/10)
