: Too green for its own good!
The 3D-CGI feature Dr. Seuss' The Lorax is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss' classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Dr Seuss, The Lorax, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift

I LOVE kids films, and animations are right up there. I LOVE ZAC EFRON - and I love brightly coloured things - but why oh why was I not a fan of this picture.

Dr Seuss, The Lorax, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift

Simply put - it added nothing new and exciting besides every other animation out there, it lacked heart, or more purely had heart but then squashed it by being a film that should have been made by Bob Brown and the Greens Party. This film, while beautiful to look at, and with what could have been engaging characters is suffocated in preaching about the environment and it did my head in - it was so over the top and repetitive I felt like Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange having my eyes forced open to be environmentally brainwashed. It was shameless and unnecessary - it could have been achieved so much more subtly.

It looks good and the 3D is pretty impressive, including the "car chase" scene which is clearly a vehicle for the 3D. But it looks no different than any of the other animations out over the last 5yrs - the only problem is that the story lets it down.

Dr Seuss, The Lorax, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift

The voice talent is great. Zac was clearly a drawcard for me and most of the planet that has a Zac crush will be heading out to see it none the less. Swift is fine and Rob Riggle voices the character of O'Hare fine - he clearly represents "corporate greed" and how they are bad for the world. The only pity with him is he looks like he has been rehashed from the female costume designer from The Incredibles. But there was one character that clearly stood out for me and constantly cracked me up. Grammy Norma played by Betty White was hysterical and like a Ninja in disguise - she made the film for me, along with the goldfish - I loved them - oh and that freaking awesome Unibike that Ted drives - want one of those please!!

Dr Seuss, The Lorax, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift

All of this being said - I think a lot of younger kids will enjoy it, I really liked the early scenes with the bears and the marshmallows - thought that was funny. But Lorax himself who is described as a "pain in the butt" is really not a pain in the butt - to me he represented a cross between Jesus and Mother Nature I even spoke to one friend who walked out with his son through the week because they found it boring as .........

Dr Seuss, The Lorax, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift

But this is also age dependant - younger kids may overlook the preaching and may fall in love with trees that look like fairy floss. They may overlook that The Onceler looks and acts like a very boring Cat from Cat in the Hat - there was no humour in him at all - where as to me he looked like the Cat but there was no Jim Carey to make me cry with laughter.

Big letdown - out now and worth 5 out of 10
