Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I may also throw in the odd post of whatever the hell I like. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: I rate my films different from the standard 5 star approach. As I work in the cinema industry I am aware that the most expensive general admission ticket is $16.50. My rating of a film is based on what I think the ticket is worth in a dollar amount up to $16.50 (a perfect film). If I think a film is worth about $5- it's probably not worth watching in my opinion. Madagascar 2 Premiere

November 18th 2008 09:20
Well now that I am a famous film critic I get invited to big wig events and I am considering hiring a typist to type out my film revew dictations. Just kidding!!

But last night, for the first time, I was invited to attend a movie premiere, as a guest this time, and treated much better than when working there as staff. It was a great experience and I would very much like to thank Network PR for my invites.

I owed a friend of mine, Mikael a night out after ditching him for a previous preview so invited him to join me on the red carpet. We both dressed like rock stars and caught the bus in (hey, it's longer than a limo, it's made by Volvo and we were thinking about the environment). The event was at the beautiful State Theatre and we rounded the corner from George St and were confronted with a) the other side of the road crammed with fans desperate to see Ben Stiller and Chris Rock arrive and b) the red carpet started from Pitt St.

Not wanting to jam our way through the crowds a security guard let us in from the other end. Big mistake - we missed all the TV cameras, celebrity reporters and when we got to the entrance we were ushered behind the cameras and not in front. Oh well, at least we didn't have to get asked "who are you?".

We took our seats and got to watch on the big screen the celeb arrivals - it was quite surreal, it looked like what I would watch on ET! but we were a part of it. I have to say that Kerry Anne looks amazing!

It was weird seeing Ben Stiller & Chris Rock in real life and a pleasure to see Jeffrey Katzenberg. I don't think Ben and Chris are friends off set or when not doing the Red Carpet. Ben Stiller is also as/or shorter than Tom Cruise and has a weirdly over proportioned head compared to his body. (see Morgan - that was nice tall poppying). Chris Rock is HOT and also bloody funny, even when he is not doing stand up he is just "on". When they introduced it on stage it looked like Ben was either jet lagged or so not into it. But they did talk about a third film being made in Sydney with Hugh and Nic starring with a cameo from Paul Hogan. It was a great pleasure attending and seeing the celebs.

Madagascar 2 ($12-)

This film re-intorduces the original crew of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer, and Andy Richter, plus many more. And I have to say I preferred it to the original and that, as a whole, all the production values are an improvement on the first. I totally laughed my ass off and I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would.

I think that Sacha Baron Cohen as King Julien completely stole the show and had me in tears. The other notable character was definately Cedric the Entertainer as Maurice, the crazy penguin head gangster.

The film has enough subtle humor and jokes to keep adults entertained and so visual and "G rated humorous" for the kids to L O V E it! It bought back some nostalgic feelings of The Lion King but more funny. If you haven't seen the first I suggest you do prior to seeing this one although don't fret if you didn't - it starts with a small run down of what happened in the first one.

For some light hearted humor and great animation voiced by some amazing talent - head out and watch this one when it releases on December 18. Worth $12-

I would also like to thank the people who supplied the premiere pics off a website and I apologise but I lost the website and company name in my rush to leave early this morning.

And PS: Mikael also liked it much more than expected and Mikael, it was great seeing you again and hope to see you again soon!!
