Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)

Made of Honor - Review

MADE OF HONOR (2008) $10-
Predictable but funny. The chick flick of the month that will pull in heaps of middle aged women dragging their husbands behind so they can stare at McDreamy.

Tom Bailey is in love with his best friend Claire, while screwing anything that breathes on the side. But Tom has a fear of commitment and refuses to admit the obvious - he should propose to Claire before she finds a less procrastinating suitor. When Colin, a rich Scotsman sweeps Claire off her feet and asks for her hand in marriage, Tom must witness her unquestioned happiness up close and personal--because she's chosen him to be her Maid Of Honor. And so ensues Tom's race to win and/ or steal her back from the inside.

The film is basically My Best Friend's Wedding (thanks Cheryl for correcting my mistake) in reverse as in from the male perspective and not the female. This is what I enjoyed from the film. The female perspective has been done a million times but this was slightly different. I found the characters quite likable. Patrick Dempsey is believable, but I just can't see why women go weak at the knees for him. Michelle Monaghan is beautiful as always and is on the rise to become a new "it" girl of Hollywood. This film releasing pretty much simultaneously with Gone Baby Gone will definitely get her some much deserved attention and a few more roles. Expect to start seeing her everywhere! I really LOVED Busy Phillips who plays Melissa, Claire's cousin and believes she should always have been the MOH (Maid of Honor), she is humorous and an absolute cow to Tom who turned her down in the past.
The cinematography in the film generally always looks good, especially Scotland - so beautiful.

Overall it's pretty OK and would make a great date film, or even better, a late rainy winter afternoon under the blanket hug fest with hot chocolate on the side while watching on DVD. I would say three months to DVD but releasing at cinemas tomorrow in Australia.
I think it's worth $10-

I love McDreamy but chick flicks make me gag. You mentioned Runaway Bride but your review makes it sounds more like My Best Friend's Wedding.

I would probably watch this on video but couldn't see myself parting with the dollars for the cinema unless I was dragged by friends.

PS: Hi Morgan, I think I'm stalking you!

Hi Gals,
Morgan - Aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwww - u is so nice!! And yes you prob would like.
Cheryl - U are so right - I am a goose, it is My Best Friend's Wedding I am talking about. I think a quiet edit is called for. This will teach me to write things while delirious with the flu. Well, maybe I am just being stupid but this is a good excuse.
Thanks for reading guys!!
PS: Can u explain what the attraction is to McDreamy??

OMG - that is SO true. Colin does absolutely nothing for me either. I nearly vomited watching him in Miami Vice. LOL

There'd have to be a lot of strong arguments to convince me to watch this.

This sounds like a male version of My Best Friend's Wedding...
