Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I may also throw in the odd post of whatever the hell I like. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: I rate my films different from the standard 5 star approach. As I work in the cinema industry I am aware that the most expensive general admission ticket is $16.50. My rating of a film is based on what I think the ticket is worth in a dollar amount up to $16.50 (a perfect film). If I think a film is worth about $5- it's probably not worth watching in my opinion. WOW - this one actually surprised me. I went in kind of laughing and expecting it to be pure CRAP but have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It is basically a 3 way mix film of "The Karate Kid" - I was even pleading for Mr Miyage towards the end, "Fight Club" - although none of them are quite Tyler Durden and "The OC" - and well one of the leads, Cam Gigandet is actually the guy who was seeing Marissa when she lost it, died and ruined the OC .
You don't need a plot outline - the above sums it all up. What was surprising was the quality of the film, it looked great, had great music and most of the acting is quite fine.

Djimon Hounsou is just amazing on screen - he never falters and MY GOD he bulked up for this one. Sean Faris is great and will go so far - he has that cutesy young smile that Tom Cruise had and a) his nose is way better, b) his bod is way better and c) he is not a lunatic as yet. Amber Heard - or her character were just too cheesy for me - she would be great as a lead on something like The OC, very HOT and my friend had dribble coming off his chin.
Great performances from Wyatt Smith as the young brother and nearly acting veteran Leslie Hope as the mum.
If you want a fairly decent, semi clichéd, school fight club styled action flick with a bit of teen romance and need to stop thinking about plot lines then this could be for you.
I would pay $10- for this ticket.
