This one brought a little tear to they eye. It is Jet Li in what looks like a sensational role. There will be no martial arts practised in this one. There will however be parental love and attempt to understand autism better and its effect on the parents.
International movie star Jet Li, who has dedicated most of his time to charity work since last year, has take a major role in the film "Ocean Paradise".
Set in an aquarium, the film tells a simple story between a father and his autistic son. Jet Li plays the father and rising Chinese actor Wen Zhang is "his son".
"I haven't got a role as a father for long," said Jet Li at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
"Last time my son was a kid, and this time it is Wen Zhang...I must have become a father at a very young age," he joked.
"I met some autistic children when I was doing charity work in recent years. When I read the script, I cried," Jet Li said, "I hope to express gratitude to all the parents in the world through the film."
Taiwan actress Kwai Lun-mei stars in the film as a clown who performs in the aquarium and meets the father and son.
"I have been practicing juggling since the day I met the director," said Kwai.
The debut project of screenwriter-turned-director Xue Xiao-lu will release in July 2010 in Honk Kong. Mo international dates as yet - keep you posted.

however, it seems that every Asian actor who goes to act in Hollywood for a few years permanently has the judgement altered for the worst afterwards. I have yet to see Li in a film as high caliber again as Once Upon A Time In China or Fist Of Legend - I hope it happens.

Jason, I guess you can add this one to your long list of movies that make you cry.
But this looks amazing! I think I read a while ago that Jet Li wanted to try and get away from doing martial arts films - he picked the right one. Awww.

Shaun - I wouldn't blame the going to the US on him not doing high calibre roles - it is more than likely just film choice. I do like a good tear jerking drama
Deni - I really enjoyed Fearless!! And yes I will definitely be taking the tissues to this one

I will just add some more from his Press Conference, he said (summarized) :
" I have a nephew who's got this handicap. And he was criticized by his teacher in front of the class. He couldn't put up with it, so he locked himself in his room during 9 months. During that time, I tried to knock at his door and talk to him but nothing would do, he would not open the door. Those 9 months had quite an impact on me."
"During my charity works, I met many parents with handicapped children, and they had that kind of strength. We should accompany their courage. It's worth appealing and paying attention to it."
He also said something about missing his father's love. Because he died when he was 2.
"In my first movie, there was one part of the dialogue that requested me to say <

It seems like a very personal experience for Jet Li and I cannot wait to see it - with a big box of tissues next to me.
Thank you for taking the time to add a part of his interview.
