Dear Orble

June 23rd 2012 21:00
: The birds have lest the nest
I have written quite a few times now about issues on Orble to no response.

Orble, On Topic Media, Abandoned Blogging Network

Google ads have disappeared, no-one gets responses anymore and it is looking like no-one give two hoots about the over 10000 people that have blogs on Orble.

This is a real shame and I would love to be corrected as to what is happening and am very worried all my blogs will one day disappear as no-one is even maintaining servers.

Every night there are issues with uploading photos and articles.

Is anybody out there?

Is anything on this site going to be addressed?

Regards
Jason King

sad things happen, I guess Orble is not attracting much money now, just as it has always been for us.

Who knows what the future holds Jason, it's really more to do with Google and their new ways.

but some announcements would be useful.

I'd say unless things change I'll have to be off at the end of the year and it will take me that long, the way things are, to collect my next $150, that means giving some dollars away, but so often it's just cents or even no cents. Pity about that, no get rich quick schemes around here, and getting rich slowly will go into the next millenium, but I shan't be here then, pity we can't see into the future, Jason, but then again maybe that's good.

By the way Happy Birthday, the big one, but from where I sit, the little one.

Luvs ya, katyzzzz.....I though adding an extra z might help

I've wondered the exact same thing! I'm getting the same money I did when I had only 200 readers. More importantly, writing an entry and uploading a photo is taking for ever! Most importantly, what is going to become of our old posts if Orble goes under???????

I did write something very poignant last night for you Katyzzzzzzzzz but for some reason it did not post but Morgan's reply posted 3 times. We can add this to the list of Orble issues
My Google ads pop up after I post an article for about 1sec - you see them flash into place and then disappear. It is probably the most minor of settings that Orble are required to alter but of course we would require someone at Orble to actually do this. I do not think I am making any Google money at the moment - I do miss my monthly pocket money
Thanks so much for the birthday wishes!! I am loving being 40

Hey James - that is my biggest fear - what will happen with my 1586 articles written in over 4yrs!! Does anyone know a way you can bulk download an entire website to back it up??

The photo uploading issues ONLY seems to occur in the PM in Australia for me - as in post 5pm. When I am awake at 5am or 6am and post an article then the entire Orble appears to work fine. Maybe the servers have been cut down and they are overloading a lot quicker??

We can all keep our fingers crossed!

Hi Guys - The ads appear fine to me. Is this something that everyone is seeing, or is it just a few blogs?

Nothing has changed from this end so it must be something that Google has done.

We're getting a new server in the next few days - about 5 times faster than the current one. So that should solve some of the slowness problems.

Looks like it's an issue with internet explorer. I'll try to get it fixed today.

WoW - thanks Jon - thought you had disappeared into the ether.
The image uploading issue effects Safari for me - and Internet Explorer and it would appear it is effecting a few people as some others have mentioned the ad uploading issues. It is only an after hours issue for me in Sydney - from 5pm to 12amish. Early mornings no issues with uploading pics.
The Google ads thing though has been happening since about March - when I sent my first email about it. They appear for a second and then disappear but the space remains for them.
I have been writing in a couple of times and have had no response - there has been a lot of worried bloggers out there.

Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /orble/.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

Also get this ALOT!!!

Thanks Jason. We're getting a new server in the next few days so that should fix the uploading problems. It's just that the traffic has outgrown the current server. The new one is about 5x faster so it should make a difference.

With regards to the ads. I cannot replicate the problem with IE, Firefox, or Chrome. Does it happen every time you load a page, or just sometimes?

If I can replicate the problem then I have a chance of fixing it.

It's on all three sites and every time.

When I go to my SydneyTable.com site there is only blank spaces where ads should be. It is the same on Total Randomness but on SaltyPopcorn - there is not even spaces - it appears like I have requested "no ads" but Modify settings clearly state "Double collumns wide - ads in text" - it's something like that from memory.

If you look at my sites do you see ads? Although NOW when I log onto Sydney Table all the ad gaps are missing and it looks again like I have requested no ads. It's very odd - is there some setting I may have changed.

I have just modified again and changed from format of "listing" to "default" on Salty Popcorn and ads have appeared, same on Sydney Table but still no ads on Total Randomness unfortunately.

Hmmmm - Best of Luck

Wait a minute, so it isn't just you Aussies giving us Yanks the shank? I thought the site looking like it was down for no apparent reason for extended periods of time was because you all didn't like us any more--if you ever did! ;-}

I have been thinking that I had better stop staging articles on Orble since I can no longer be sure that I can get at what I created whenever I like...It might be time to move on...

I have been kicked out of better places that this!!!

I really have.

Hi Jason,

I've just checked out Total Randomness and I can see the ads (am using Chrome). So you have at least one reader who can see them .

I'm wondering - do you see ads for your older posts? I can see ads for my more recent posts, but as for the older ones, there are only sad little blank spots. Thought this was a Google/Orble thing at first. Not so sure now.

Like you, I've had the "Proxy Error" problem during the evening as well. Been going on for a while. Hope the server change will solve this.

Anyhoo, thanks for keeping up with the questions and finally bringing us some answers.

Cheers,
Rusty.

OK - so now I have tried it on Safari, Internet Explorer and Chrome - all the same - they have at least started to load now but they fail or drop out of the website and if I reload it about 3 times the ads appear to stay now - this is a LOT better than what it was but on Randomness mostly they never load on the first attempt.

Hopefully we will get there soon!!

Oh Yanks - as in those people on that big island at the bottom of the planet? Hmmmpphhh - total indifference - too much energy giving you the shank - we will just give you enough rope to hang yourselves hahahaha - just kidding!!!

Maybe chill around for a few more weeks Michael - it would be good to see if the new servers can handle everything now.

Thanks for commenting!!

Hey Rusty - no worries matey in asking the questions - I think it was more out of worry as to what would happen to four years of articles if I didn't. I may have ended up like a little spoilt kid jumping up and down asking over and over buy hey, it worked as a kid

I just tried Chrome on the laptop and use Safari on the Mac and the work laptop has every browser except Safari and it was the same on all of them - the ads load then disappear but I am definitely seeing them appear now more and more so something is working.

Take Care Mr Can

OK - new server is finally up and running.

I'm hoping that with faster load times Google will be able to serve ads on a higher % of pages.

Ads are appearing on all the blogs for me -- give it a day or so and let me know if they are still not appearing for you.

It looks like Google updated their adsense code and it started conflicting with some of our javascript.

I've removed the javascript so the ads should appear without any problems (let me know if not). Unfortunately it also means that some functions that required javascript will now be broken - such as the voting.

It may take a day or two to come up with a fix.

Just to let you know though - the POPULAR POSTS are frozen and have been all weird - freezing, going backwards, deleting some and so on.

Has anyone had problems with posting new blog entries since last Friday? As I have no internet access at home, I normally post my entries in advance in my Orble account at the library each weekend and use the calendar date/time function to make the new entries appear the following Mon-Fri. Ever since last Friday, this option no longer works meaning in order to update my I have to post all my new blog entries under current time and date, meaning I now have to log in to Orble each day in order to update my blog. This would not be a big deal but work has blocked the Orble web site so it means going to the library every evening to do this.

If you have had this problem, how did you get it fixed? Thanks.

Hey Queenie,

I always post my articles as current date/ time.

But they did change to new servers this week and there appears to be many bugs since the update. None of the "Popular Posts" have changed since they did the server change and the daily email of most popular articles does not seem to be updating either.

Hopefully Jon will read this soon and fix the bugs.

Hope you are well

Thanks, Jason. I've also noticed the voting button on my blog has been disabled. I'm also not getting the reader stats emails from Orble anymore.

Nice to know I'm not the only one experiencing problems!

Everything has gone to shit Queenie and we have to wait until someone from Orble could be bothered to check - it gets very frustrating when noone is actually running the show until once in a blue moon when something catches their attention

Everything except the voting should be fixed now.

The voting is a little harder as I'll have to write new javascript as the old was conflicting with Adsense.

If you notice any other problems let me know.

Oh crap Ray - that is horrible. I am pretty sure Orble has been abandoned by Admin - this complaint of not hearing back from anyone is pretty universal on the site. I have started moving all my sites off Orble and onto their own websites - something that is very hard as it has to be done post by post - not cool with about 1000 posts - am up to 45
I can only suggest you try a password reset - am hoping someone else in the comments of this post may be able to help you out more but I can suggest things for basic fixes but as for losing access to all your sites I have limited clues - I wish you all the best in getting it resolved
