MIDNIGHT IN PARIS SCREENING
Category: Interesting
Hey Everyone - this is something important to me and a very dear friend of mine, Alison. As you will see below Alison is the next Diane Fossy and has spent a fairly long time caring for monkeys in Africa. She is back in the country for a brief time to help raise money for the sanctuary she works in and is about to head back to Africa to help keep these animals safe. This is not a soppy plea for money but it is an opportunity for you to see the amazing soon to be released film MIDNIGHT IN PARIS and to support a damn fine cause and possibly win some great prizes.
Some words from Alison:
I first worked at Limbe Wildlife Centre in Cameroon, which is administered by an animal NGO called Pandrillus, which is based in Nigeria. Pandrillus was started in 1988 by an American couple who found a Drill monkey in a box in a taxi park in Calabar. A couple of weeks later, they were given a baby chimpanzee and started Pandrillus out of the back of their Land rover.
They've been there ever since and convinced me to go to Nigeria instead of spending time in Barcelona like I had planned. They've got over 600 animals in their care, most of them Drill Monkeys. They also house 28 orphaned, abandoned or injured chimpanzees, 3 of them (including Iku) being cared for in their own little nursery in Calabar. They've also managed to create one the most successful captive breeding programs of an endangered animal in the world (for the drill monkey), which is amazing considering approx. 25 years ago they were considered extinct. They've won many awards and are one of the founding members of PASA (Pan Africa Sanctuary Alliance).
But they need money! There isn't enough to go around and often when they receive grants from organizations/governments etc, it's for very specific projects such as building a new 20HA naturalized enclosure for the chimpanzees. This is so they have more room to house more orphans but also so they can live in separate groups if they wish too. The Australian High Commission in Nigeria just funded that, but it doesn't allow for spending on maintenance on buildings, new staff quarters so people can live on-site 24 hours a day, salaries of the 60 Nigerians who work and care for the animals. They have to fund this through private donations from people like us, which is why i'm doing this screening so I can send it back to them so all of this stuff can start getting sorted.
100% of the ticket price will go directly back to the organization as i'm covering all the costs associated with the screening.
Please get all of your friends to buy tickets!!!
There is also a raffle on the night and a free drink on arrival.
