Much better than the last two Shrek films

Long before he even met Shrek, the notorious fighter, lover and outlaw Puss in Boots becomes a hero when he sets off on an adventure with the tough and street smart Kitty Softpaws and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty to save his town. This is the true story of The Cat, The Myth, The Legend... The Boots.
I have had a fun time with this film. We got to attend the premiere and meet and interview the stars (SEE HERE), Mitch attended a round table interview with director Chris Miller to discuss the film (published straight after this) and we got to see the film. It was nearly a trifecta of joy, but sadly, the film comes up a bit short.
It is better than Shrek 3 and 4 but way short of 1 & 2. It also sadly doesn't live up to the story of legend of Puss and lets his legend down. But regardless the film is a joy for the kids and a great holiday film for the whole family.
The talent is there with Banderas, Hayek and Galifianakis all being superb portraying their animated counterparts and there are some hilarious moments of belly rolling laughter, the only problem is the script does not continue the humour and instead settles into the mould of the Shrek films. The jokes are gone from those films and they should have aimed more for stand alone humour.
Mixed with the belly rolling humour is some sensational action sequences that are mind blowing in 3D and the film really uses the 3D medium to its full effect. The animation is also top notch with some visual mouth agape sequences.
It doesn't get there in whole for me and I would never watch it again but it was enjoyable and I think kids galore will be mad for this film. It was better for me as I got to meet the actors the next day and they are amazing people. Suss it out and enjoy it - you could do much much worse. Worth 6/10.
