Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I may also throw in the odd post of whatever the hell I like. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: I rate my films different from the standard 5 star approach. As I work in the cinema industry I am aware that the most expensive general admission ticket is $16.50. My rating of a film is based on what I think the ticket is worth in a dollar amount up to $16.50 (a perfect film). If I think a film is worth about $5- it's probably not worth watching in my opinion. Quantum of Solace ($12-)

QUANTUM OF SOLACE continues the high octane adventures of James Bond in CASINO ROYALE.

Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (JUDI DENCH) interrogate Mr White (JESPER CHRISTENSEN) who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (OLGA KURYLENKO), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (MATHIEU AMALRIC), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (JOAQUIN COSIO). Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organisation.

I will say what pretty much every reviewer and critic has already said - this is way more Bourne than Bond. It is a pure adrenalin action packed revenge adventure blockbuster. While I absolutely loved it I think in trying to recreate a newer more modern Bond they are straying too far from what we all know and love of Bond.

I believe this is the best looking Bond film there has been and the abundant settings are up to date, modern and shot so sharply the cinema imagery punches out of the screen. I was also thoroughly impressed with bringing the issues of Bond into the now with themes on environment, corruption and pure revenge overtaking the character villains. This Bond appears more real and most of the action is believable except for the plane scene. I do miss the standard Bond....James Bond omitted fro the film, also I WANT the shaken, not stirred line in there and OMG - when are they going to introduce Q and some gadgets - less gadgets than Casino Royale - in fact NO gadgets.

Daniel Craig is brilliant as always and this episode of the Bond mega franchise is his closure film. Q of S is more the continuation of Casino Royale than a stand alone. This finalises him as becoming Bond...James Bond and now he can exorcise his demons and take on more bad guys without his history standing in the way. The emotion he brings to the character is subtle and more gritty than the comic two dimensional characters of previous installments. I think this is the first Bond that has considered the people that fall like flies in his path.

Judi Dench has the most amazing screen presence and you can tell how much she loves playing the "mother-like" character to James. Olga is just stunning but I did find her character could have developed more. In fact, overall character development was subtle to the point of non existent. And I do believe this is the second shortest Bond ever made and probably the one that James says the least.

The film is shot superbly and at times plays more as art than action film with the use of beautiful music and score a strong character accompanying the visual palate.

"Because Bond plays it real, I thought the political circumstances should be real too, even though Bond shouldn't be a political film. I thought the more political I make it, the more real it feels, not just with Bolivia and what's happening in Haiti, but with all these corporations like Shell and Chevron saying they're green because it's so fashionable to be green. During the Cold War, everything was very clear, the good guys and the bad guys. Today there's much overlapping of good and bad. It isn't as morally distinct, because we all have both elements in us."
–Marc Forster (Director) on the political landscape of the film

This one is very different from the regular Bond films Morgan. Did u see Casino Royale - it's a toned down version of that Bond wise and shaken with total Bourne action.
Thanks for popping in - can always count on you to comment.

I LOVED IT!!!!

Real food for a long time starved Bond Fan, that is to say since Sean Connery kept it real in the olden days.

Fabbo sequel to the first effort by Craig... lovely bookend... great closure.

Now we have only to wait for the New Adventure to Begin.
