Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. R2D2 has been found in Star Trek

: Little R2 Gets Around
Category: No Category
You may remember a month or so ago I posted the article R2D2 is in Star Trek. Well he has finally been found.

R2D2
R2D2

During the Drill Machine sequence as the Enterprise comes out of its barrel role amidst destruction of the other Federation ships above Vulcan, we cut to an interior Enterprise bridge over the shoulder of Kirk that is looking out through the front viewscreen. In space, R2-D2 is floating in the debris from about the top middle of the screen to the bottom right.

Rumors are now spreading that ILM has been putting R2 in every film they do the effects for. One person claims he is in "The Will Be Blood" and all the Pirates movies. Anyone seen any of these??

Are yo sure it isn't a Dalek? More their kind of scene I would think.

How can you tell from that fuzzy little blob?

I thought R2D2 was inseparable from C3PO, so where's the golden body?

It is fascinating Morgan - I watched it so many times and got eyestrain trying to find him. Glad that is over!

Elisabeth - Paramount announced a competition to win pieces from the set if you could find R2D2 in Star Trek - he was purposefully placed in the film.

Not me Wilson - I can't take the credit - it was some uber geek in the US that watched it about 200 times.

I find it all kinda ridiculous. It spoils the artifice of Star Trek to be honest. It's an in joke taken too far. Perhaps I'm being too much of a cine purist, I don't know.

As for putting R2D2 in every movie they work on, that's simply sabotage! R2 in There Will Be Blood? Paul Thomas Anderson would be outraged!

I love R2, but this madness has to stop!

Generally I'd agree with you, but such an insignificant part has no bearing on the movie... just a little bit of fun

I don't think it spoils anything - if it takes someone many multiple viewings to locate it then it is not going to effect anyone.
I do think you are too much of a purist Bryn - chill out
I heard talk that he was in the other films - whether he actually is is another thing. Plus - I do not think any film would get R2 in it unless the director knew about it. ILM does have some integrity to maintain.

Someone - "just a little bit of fun" - a nice summation.

Well, purist I might be, but I'll stand by my cine laurels. I wouldn't command the respect I own if I didn't act so forthrightly about such sillyisms. LOL
