RPatz is Very Cool in This One

I was very keen to see how Mr Robert "Edward" Pattinson would fare in a film since his Twilight fame and I have to say I was very impressed.
You will hear everywhere that he is basically playing Edward all over again as he is this brooding miserable guy, but hey, it's the character and I think he does brooding well. But critics I am sure will use this as an excuse to savage him - I think it's a reason to commend him. When I had first seen the trailer for this film I thought it was looking like a boring, inner suburbia film with violent dad and rebellious teens but it is so much more. This film floored me.
Do yourself a favour when seeing this film, read nothing about it, ok - this review is fine as I will not ruin the plot at all - and go into the film with an open mind, you may feel it is suburban throughout the first half but towards the end of the film I actually gasped and placed my hand over my mouth and then for the first time in my media viewing history had to hide my eyes leaving as I had puffy tear stained eyes. And I am so glad I did not read the production notes prior to watching as it would have ruined the surprise of the film that devastated me.
Robert Pattinson plays Tyler, a rebellious young man in New York City who has a strained relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) ever since tragedy separated their family. Tyler didn't think anyone could possibly understand what he was going through until the day he met Ally (Emilie de Ravin) through an unusual twist of fate. Love was the last thing on his mind, but as her spirit unexpectedly heals and inspires him, he begins to fall for her. Through their love, he begins to find happiness and meaning in his life. But soon, hidden secrets are revealed, and the circumstances that brought them together slowly threaten to tear them apart. Remember Me is an unforgettable story about the power of love, the strength of family, and the importance of living passionately and treasuring every day of one's life.
The casting of this film is brilliant. Robert Pattinson is performing his best in this film and as a total "Team Jacob" member (can you blame me
) I was actually swayed by Rob in this film. It is good to see him smile and also to look a little less perfect. He has a grungie look that is more attractive than his "Edward" counterpart. Emilie De Ravin is fantastic in her part, you would know her from Lost as the blonde Aussie hottie, Pierce Brosnan is also enjoyable to watch and I have come to a conclusion with Brosnan, he should ONLY play wealthy people who wear suits. It works for him every single time, when he tries to go out on a limb and rough it that accent of his just ruins it all. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Brosnan once and I waited next to his limo one night at the after party for the Australian Premiere of The Thomas Crown Affair, which I screened, as the projectionist and I have to say he is one of the nicest celebs I have met - he wanted to know more how my life was than discuss his. Very friendly and a pleasure to meet - thanks for the autograph Mr B.
I was also impressed by Chris Cooper, the street trained cop who is hurt by the loss of his wife and deals with things with a heavy hand. It's not too far from his performance in Amercian Beauty. I also LOVE Leno Olin and was saddened her per part was so small. What does let this film down is the accents. This is a Brooklyn film, in Central NY, and not one actor pulls the accent off. Chris Cooper comes close but his accent is all over the place, in one scene he is brilliant with the accent and reminded me of Tom Berenger in "Someone to Watch Over Me" and then in other scenes it is "generic" American. I understand the accents of Rob and Pierce can be explained through emigration but not so for Emilie, she is born and bred there. I think she did an ok job at "generic" American, especially considering how heavy her real Australian accent is but I think New Yorkers may get pissed at the accents. Tyler (Pattinson's) room mate is the comic relief of the film. He is played by Tate Ellington and for me it was so over the top I occasionally fantasised of punching him in the face. His chartacter, Aidan, has his heart in a good place, but it looked like he was trying to impress the cast and crew so much that it turned me off. Tone it down a notch next time Tate!
One central charater of the film is also superb, this is New York itself in all its glory and sadness. The ending of this film floored me, as I have mentioned, but this moment in time is central to New York itself and proves that no matter what is happening in your life then fate and the world itself will always have more intrusion in life's events than you can imagine. I cannot find if this is based on a true story or not, but would not be surprised if it was.
The relationship and chemistry between Pattinson and De Ravin is intense - it is a lead match made in heaven and I would not have been surprised if he dumped that Twilight partner of his for De Ravin. The two of them just made me want to have hallway sex, it's a beautiful steamy scene
I also think the matching of Brosnan and Pattinson as father and son is a sight to watch, they play off each other so well and there is more to their family relationship than you can see - it is entirely believable and the development, nurturing and growing of their love for each other was one of the highlights for me.
The film is directed by Allen Coulter, who has so many TV shows under his belt it is amazing - X Files, Millenium, Sex and the City, Six Ft Under, Rome, The Sopranos - I have no need to go on but he did get a lot of recognition for his feature film debut last year with Hollywoodland. I don't think this film will make him squillions but I do hope it gains him some art house recognition and that his work is appreciated.
This is probably not one many guys will like, it is at it's heart a love story. It is fun at times, very dramatic and requires tissues. But the heart of it shines strong and for this I loved it. Worth 8/10.

Pippa - are u some kind of stalking RPatz freaking idiot - if you actually read my site you may know I am a HUGE Twilight fan, all my biggest articles are on the Twilight series - did you even read this review at all you idiot? I did judge it on its own merit and state that other critics would slam him but I think he needs to be "commended" but he is EDWARD you goose. My opinions on this site - not planning on writing for the big boys and selling out so if you don't like what you read - close the browser.
Anonymous Number 2 - My pleasure - he is awesome in this film and he definately is much more than Edward - for me he was firstly the guy from Harry Potter

I just want to make it clear that in no way am I RPatz or Twilight bashing. I love Twilight and it's characters - total team Jacob BTW - this does not require all team Edward teenage girls to attack my review - he is a credible actor. As you are not actually dating him yourself I fail to see the necessity for a few of you to defend him to the death. I thoroughly appreciate your comments but no need to take it so personally.
Smile kids!!!
