Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I may also throw in the odd post of whatever the hell I like. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: I rate my films different from the standard 5 star approach. As I work in the cinema industry I am aware that the most expensive general admission ticket is $16.50. My rating of a film is based on what I think the ticket is worth in a dollar amount up to $16.50 (a perfect film). If I think a film is worth about $5- it's probably not worth watching in my opinion. Review of Untraceable

UNTRACEABLE (2008) $12.50
This cyber thriller was very surprising. Not a massive "A" list cast, slightly predictable but you know what? This kept me enthralled and glued to the screen.
It is kind of like a mature person's Saw film. This even goes slightly beyond the Saw theme in that most of the public become accomplices to the murderer.
Brought to us by the director of Fracture, Frequency, Hart's War, Primal Fear and a multitude of cop TV shows you have all heard of, this psychological thriller/ torture flick grabbed me from start to finish.
An FBI agent, Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane), gets caught in a very personal and deadly cat-and-mouse game with a serial killer who knows that people (being what they are - both curious and drawn to the dark side of things) will log onto an "untraceable" website where he conducts violent and painful murders LIVE on the net. The more people who log on and enter the website, the quicker and more violently the victim dies.

It definitely has hints of Saw through the torture methods and I had recently read a reviewer claim this was The Silence of the Lambs for the net generation. I think this was written by the production company itself as nothing can come close to Silence.... in the psycho thriller genre.

Diane Lane is truly remarkable and OH SO HOT!!!! She has a continual elegance about her and I actually felt for her and wanted to give her a big hug. My 18yr old co-screener wanted a piece of this beautiful 43yr old mum. LOL. While I really like Colin Hanks (Tom's little boy) I found that he has so much more talent to be the geeky FBI sidekick, although he is great to watch acting.

You find out who the bad guy is half way through so it won't be a massive spoiler but if you don't want to know - don't read this paragraph. Joseph Cross plays the nut job in this one with the typical nut job back story but with the addition of some black eye liner I did find him quite scary. Joseph is most known for Flags of Our Fathers and Running with Scissors.
I really enjoyed the unraveling at the end as you find out the meaning of it all however am unsure if this will be any kind of success. There is just enough gore that maybe teenagers will like it but not enough jumps, adults will enjoy it if they like a good cop hunting film and can cope with a bit of torture. DEF a NO for young kids, unless of course you wish to totally mess them up. Better than expected. $12.50 is what I think this is worth.

I'm a big fan of Diane Lane too ever since The Outsiders, but this one just sounds too generic and predictable to hold my interest. ...must admit I can't stand Hanks or his son which is a big black mark against it.

I do however love a good cop hunting film like Se7en and Manhunter so maybe I will check it out on DVD and hope for a surprise.

Se7en was awesome - wasn't a fan of Manhunter. DVD would be perfect for this one. Suss out Street Kings though on the big screen.
