RIVER"S END (2005) $9- AKA Molding Clay
This film is so cheesy it had me laughing at certain scenes. It's like a Day's of Our lives version of The River Wild (1994) crossed with a Bold and the Beautiful version of Into The Wild (2007) but the funny thing is. I enjoyed it! Maybe this flu is still making me delirious but this is a whole family film that people of all ages will probably enjoy. It's a perfect Sunday midday movie film.
Clay Watkins can't seem to stay out of trouble. Still haunted by the death of his father, Clay's troubles only grow when he moves to the small town where grandfather, Buster, is sheriff. Concerned for the angry young man his grandson has become, Buster sets up a roadblock on Clay's collision course with the law by presenting him with a choice: successfully navigate a 60-mile stretch of the rugged and perilous Pecos River or go to jail.
It has an amazing cast, Sam Worthington (Jungle to Jungle, Detroit Rock City (one of the best teen films of ALL time), Jimmy Olsen in Superman Returns) in the lead as Clay, Cinema Veteran Barry Corbin (147 IMDB credits - pick one) and Caroline Goodall (Cliffhanger, Schindler's List, The Chumscrubber) and they all play their parts well. There is a fair amount of decent cinematography but the films comes across as a Hallmark production. This film could have been brilliant!!!!! But I assume it was made for young kids to enjoy and it does give great entertainment while providing life's knowledge for all to follow.
If you have young kids about 7 - 8 or older then I think this will be a hit with them and if you watch it with them you may actually enjoy it yourself. One review I read of this film said it was so well written Walt Disney should stand up in his grave and clap - now this did make me laugh!!!
I think this is worth $9- or the cost of the overnight rental. It is now out on DVD in Australia!!
