It's been ten years for Sidney Prescott and she has finally put her life back together when along comes ghostface to scare the shit out of more cinema goers.
Wes Craven literally reinvented or reintroduced horror back in 1996 when he brought us the first Scream. Commercially horror was boring and a tacky market of scares for teenagers in the back of a cinema or from a straight to DVD B Grade film when Craven brought it back to the mainstream and commenced one HUGE franchise. Scream holds a special place in my heart. I got to screen the Australian premiere of the film at George St Cinemas back in '96. This was a non celebrity premiere and it was 6 months prior to the film's release and the cool part was that the film turned up in a box marked Scream and that was all we knew about it. There were no trailers, posters or synopsis anywhere. I was asked to check the print at midnight to ensure the film would screen perfectly. The manager on the night shift, Vesna, decided to watch it with me and I screened it for just the two of us in a 1100 seat cinema with the largest screen in the country at the time. We literally knew nothing about this film and by the end of the Drew Barrymore opening we were sitting on the armrest between us holding each other because of fear and looking over our shoulder for things to jump out and murder us. It was like the end of watching Cape Fear where I saw every staff member in the car park look under their car
Scary as hell.
Anyways this one has a huge cast with Neve Campbell, of course - where the hell has she been hiding, David Arquette and soon to be ex wife Courtney Cox (a fitting end to where they first met on the first Scream)
, Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Rory Culkin, Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. I didn't see Brody in the trailer so am going to predict he is the killer
. This one releases on April 15th 2011.
