Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! Also, be sure to check out my other blogs www.sydneytable.com and http://www.orble.com/total-randomness/ PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. Some of My Pics

Hiya, I am bored and haven't seen any new movies besides the two I wrote about early in the week. Although I am excited about some dvd's I bought today. Evy DVD at Warringah Mall is closing down and offering MASS discounts. Got 4 awesome films for $40-.
Silence of the Lambs - a perfect film. It rubs the lotion into the skin. LOL
Dark Crystal - still one of the best films ever made - gets me every time. Apparently they are looking at remaking it into a CGI fest. Can they pull it off and make it as good - I doubt it.
Labyrinth - scared the crap out of me when I was younger but came as a double feature with Dark Crystal so am giving it another shot because most people I know love it.
The Basketball Diaries - Leonardo is a GOD and this film is totally brilliant and sad story of a poet and talented young man who becomes a junkie. AWESOME performances all round.
So I have some fun viewing this weekend and if you haven't seen them I thoroughly recommend you do!!!

And just to give this blog some oomph - some of my photography that I do as a hobby.
Yes orders for prints on canvas excepted. Hahahahahaha

This one's of a blue wildflower (no technical term forthcoming) after some rare rain at the base of Ayers Rock

This is an annoying dragonfly that I spent close to an hour harassing

This is just one angry grasshopper from my backyard

This guy wanted to eat me

Anyways - have a great weekend.

Hi Jason,
I have to ask...did you REALLY take these photos??

If you did...MAN!..you have a career ahead of you as a photographer!

If not, better be quick to put the photo credits in, or risk spending your future in debtor's court!

cheers

You have some talent as a photographer Jason cool pics...as for teh movies dark Crystal and Labyrinth are fun fantasy's that will forever be sentimental faves...Basketball Diaries is the best thing Leo has ever done. Silence of the Lambs was ruined by Hopkins Hamming..the whole thing has such a careful atmosphere of realism that is destroyed every time he is in frame and pulls you out of any tension or suspense...great script though.

Lovely pictures, indeed!

BTW, I love The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth! I loved that whole time period and genre of movies. There was this golden period where dark, magical movies were being made like those two as well as Legend, The Secret of Nymh, etc.

The idea of remaking The Dark Crystal sounds painful to me. The original was a masterpiece, in my estimation, and should be left alone!

Thanks Natalie2,
There was another film made around this time that I just loved - it has probably dated so much by now and a good remake would do this film justice. I think it was called Krull and this guy had a pet panther and a weird colorful killing boomerang or something similar. Just loved it. Was very dark.
I also have to put up some more pics.
And it will be interesting to see if they can do Dark Crystal 2 any justice. They are looking at reuniting the same cast and the story will commence where the last one finished.
Fingers crossed.

Hi jason,
Your talking about Krull for the cool star boomerang and Beastmaster for the guy with the panther...2 guilty pleasures snuggled away on my DVD shelf.

JD - OMG - you are so correct. Have they dated? And are they really on DVD - I am EBaying right NOW!!!!!! Thankyou!! I am all tingly - I just LOVED them!! There was a Beatmaster 2 also wasn't there?? I just read that there was a TV show and that an 18yr old Demi Moore was nearly the lead female.

JohnDoe, I am so glad to see I am not the only person on the planet who has a copy of Krull in their DVD collection!

Jason, I would say Krull is dated, but still guilty, campy fun! I hope you find it on Ebay!
