Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)

Spiderwick is Sensational

It was like step back in time, to those days when I was younger and saw The Never Ending Story for the first time, Princess Bride for the first time. Hell - even ET for the first time. This film gave me goosebumps, it was pure childhood fantasy at its best. An equal to the Harry Potters in entertainment and special effects.
I am gushing - this is close to my favorite film from the last year. I cried, laughed and cheered which has to be a good sign.
I might be too old but am so buying the whole book series this week - I am hooked!!!
I hope it goes well as they need a new fantasy children's franchise as the whole world has to revolve around more than Potter (sorry Harry - I still love you - lol).
"Upon moving into the run-down Spiderwick Estate with their mother, twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace, along with their sister Mallory, find themselves pulled into an alternate world full of faeries and other creatures."
The story is brilliant, the cast is fantastic and HUGE, check this out - Freddie Highmore from Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and August Rush (plus soon to be the voice of Astro Boy) is playing the twins, Jared and Simon Grace. Nick Nolte as the evil Mulgarath, Mary Louise Parker as the newly single and unbelieving mum. Joan Plowright as Aunty Spiderwick, David Strathairn as Arthur Spiderwick plus some awesome talent doing the voices of some of the creatures - Seth Rogan and Martin Short to name a couple.
This will definitely scare the younger children but if your kids can sit through a Harry Potter then this is one for them - and the BEST part - you may even love it more than them. All I can say was it was too short - I wanted more and bring on the sequel!!!!!
MUST SEE - I would spend $14.50 on this film ticket out of a maximum of $16-.
