ASHTON IS STILL HOT

Spread ($4-)
I had a disastrous morning. Firstly, I drove to the other side of the city to get my car serviced to be told it would cost about $1000- to service my NEW car. Assuming it was free and covered in the exuberant price of the purchase I nearly fainted. My last car, which I updated with the same people cost about $10000- less and all services were covered. This morning I was told "your service book is not stamped and this means no FREE service". I asked them to check on this as there must be an oversite - to which the guy left me sitting in the same place for 30min so I got up and left the place, quite perturbed. NOT HAPPY JAN!!
Then I thought stuff it, I called my mum and she is arranging for a service when I am staying with her next week and her guy does the service for about $200- MUCH BETTER!!
Then I thought I am in the city - why not head into the art house cinema district and see what's on - after the most deliscious Eggs Benedict at this amazing little bookshop/ cafe in Darlinghurst I headed to the Academy Twin and got all excited because I could watch Balibo and had found the ONLY unrestricted parking spot in the entire suburb - then I was told that they were experiencing technical difficulties so the session was cancelled - not my luck.
So then I headed to Fox Studios and decided to watch Ashton Kutcher's new film "SPREAD". Ashton is a guilty pleasure of mine - I absolutely love and lust him
I also enjoy his acting in films and thought this R rated sex romp with him would be the perfect thing to put a smile on my dial.
What proceeded was close to two hours of rubbish with gratuitous semi naked scenes of Ashton - that I could manage to handle but the film was so poor that I nearly walked out.
Spread tells the story a high-end lothario, Nikki (Ashton Kutcher), who has slept his way into a life of privilege. He shares his secrets with us as he hosts parties and beds scores of women, all while living it up at the Hollywood Hills home of a middle-aged female attorney, Samantha (Anne Heche). Everything is going well for Nikki until he meets a gorgeous waitress named Heather (Margarita Levieva), who, unbeknownst to him, is playing the same game that he is. Nikki and Heather find themselves sexually charged by a game of one-upsmanship that has them dining at fine restaurants and crashing posh parties, until the truth of their lives forces them to choose between love and money. Inspired poorly by classics like Shampoo, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and America Gigolo, Spread profiles a sexual grifter and his prey.
Los Angeles serves as a character unto its own in this film, providing slick and luxurious backdrops during Nikki's high times, and seedy, fleabag motels when Nikki has nowhere else to turn. Nikki runs the gamut of Hollywood dreams and nightmares. The supporting cast is rounded out with gorgeous women like Emily (Rachel Blanchard), who is drawn in by Nikki's good looks and charm but is left feeling cold and used, and Nikki's best friend, Harry (Sebastian Stan), who struggles with their co-dependant relationship, always needing to bail Nikki out when he runs out of women to depend on.
Directed by David Mackenzie (Hallam Foe, Young Adam), Spread is an iconic look at the lure of sex, money, and access that Hollywood offers to the beautiful people, and the karmic price that Nikki must ultimately pay to live that lifestyle. I was surprised by Mackenzie directing this - I love "Hallam Foe" but this was just poor. But then I see Ashton is producer and he must have pushed for this film to be made. What annoys me is that this character is such an egocentric, arrogant ass sleeping with Hollywood older women - is this much difference from Ashton's real life? I still love you Ashton - but back off buddie - playing the innocent nice guy is way more suited to you.
Nikki is described as vacuous in this film and for me it was a description of the entire film to a T. It is so full of Hollywood wannabees that you get caught up in it and their meaningless existence washes over you and you get bored. The major problem I had with the film was that besides gawking at Ashton I just didn't care for his character - he is a male whore who uses women to get what he wants - he is an asshole. A scene later in the film sees him defending the honor of a female stripper - and to me it came out of nowhere - he didn't give a shit about them prior to that - why start now.
The one thing that is bloody sensational about this film is Anne Heche - she is just beautiful as the desperate cougar not wanting to let go of her youth by fucking young guys - it is not sex and I won't beat around the bush (pun intended) by wording it politely. You get to see Anne Heche in all her glory and I wouldn't be surprised if her and Aston weren't doing it for real. All we needed to see was Ashton's member and a cumshot and this film would have been porn. How on earth did Demi feel about watching him and Heche going for it in numerous positions?
Ashton has more personality in "Dude, Where's My Car?" but he has never looked better. The film gets a score of only $4-. One point for each of Ashton's peachlike butt cheeks
and two points because I really liked Anne Heche in this. The film is out now on limited release and is R Rated in Australia.
