Step Up 2: The Streets

My suggestion - do not step out to see this film unless you are under 16 and want to see some good dancing.
The IMDB of this film says in the plot description "Romantic sparks occur between two dance students from different backgrounds at the Maryland School of the Arts." - This may have been the intention but there were NO sparks whatsoever and while the dancing is brilliant (I MEAN SUPERBLY CHOREOGRAPHED JAW DROPPING GREATNESS) it is too spaced out with some ridiculous-as-shit attempts at romance - so bad it even has violins in the background trying to grasp the romance like Gone with the Wind. I was laughing out loud.
The acting is mediocre - so thank god they can dance!!!!
Adam G Sevani was the only character with depth who I enjoyed watching. He plays Moose - a kind of comic relief character who can also dance really well and gets to snog one of the hottest chicks in the film. While totally unbelievable you've got to cheer the little guy. As this is his first film I hope he can get some more gigs.
I only went to see this because I actually liked the first one - and while I did enjoy the dancing - would not recommend this one. Purely made, in my belief, to cash in on the success of "So You Think You Can Dance" and the school holiday period.
The most expensive general admission ticket at a cinema in Australia is $16-. For this film I would pay $5-.

Good news for me though, because I am about to go interestate travelling with my 11 year-old and it sounds like the perfect film to catch on Friday night - when we were otherwise debating what we would do ... both of my kids loved Step Up 1.. and to tell the truth it wasn't bad in offering the right kind of inspiration to struggling young ones... it's kind of good that there aren;t too many sparks then?
Thank you for the heads up!
