The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) $13-
One year later, the Kings and Queens of Narnia find themselves back in that faraway wondrous realm, only to discover that more than 1,300 years have passed in Narnian time. During their absence, the Golden Age of Narnia has become extinct and Narnia has been conquered by the Telmarines and is now under the control of the evil King Miraz, who rules the land without mercy. The four children will soon meet a curious new character: Narnia's rightful heir to the throne, the young Prince Caspian, who has been forced into hiding, as his uncle Miraz plots to kill him in order to place his own newborn son on the throne. With the help of the kindly dwarf, a courageous talking mouse named Reepicheep, a badger named Trufflehunter and a Black Dwarf, Nikabrik, the Narnians--led by the mighty knights Peter and Caspian--embark on a remarkable journey to find Aslan, rescue Narnia from Miraz's tyrannical hold, and restore magic and glory to the land.
Finally they have gotten the movie franchise on track. I was devastated by the first film. I just wanted to murder the kids in it myself. This time they have created a much more darker, sinister Narnia and I actually started to like the kids. The film is visually stunning with effects galore and every frame is well structured and edited with a beautiful array of colors. The cinematography is amazing. I wanted to go to Narnia. The film starts on a grand scale and the film maintains it.
I found that the grand scale was achieved though at the expense of the character development and interactions. The kids have grown up, young Lucy lost two of her baby teeth during shooting and a bridge had to be created for her. The elder brother, Peter, is still the most annoying Pevensie child. He manages to screw up a few times but for the first time I felt for him. The younger brother in the film, Edmund Pevensie is basically not required in the film, which was a shame as I thought he was my fave child from the group. Then there is Prince Caspian, Ben Barnes, one super spunky chick magnet. I think he played his character well but I found the character kind of boring. Once the Pevensie children turn up he is "backseated" for the remainder of the film. He was great to watch though. Hehe. And, was there really romance sparks from Prince Caspian and Susan Pevensie - I got more romance vibes from Peter and Caspian.
There are a host of other animal characters in the film but as a friend from work suggested - none of them were half as exciting as the characters from the first film. Mr. Tumnus, the Faun played by the superstar since the original, James McAvoy. Plus the beavers and all the other characters were so cool. In this film while the other creatures look amazing you just don't give a hoot about them. All except the amazing sword swashbuckling mouse, Reepicheep, voiced by the fabulous Eddie Izzard. He is the highlight in the film.
The Telmarines had too much political in house fighting I was starting to get confused and wanted to get back to the action but the costumes are fantastic. I did miss the evil White Witch and found the evil chracters in this film could not match up to her wickedness.
It's truly a great action/ fantasy film though that I think is 75% there to being a great Lord of the Rings kind of film. The first one was about 50% there so lets hope The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) will push the limit to 100%. And hell, I am sure there is a few books after that one. We need more films like this fantasy action film. I hope it goes well, however with an M rating I think it will miss a fair sized audience. The M rating is correct though, this is one I would not recommend for youngsters, there is not much blood or gore but it is a war film and there is even a fight to the death. One other sad thing that may hurt this film is the people at Disney's silly decision making, or complete error, in releasing it the same day as Sex and The City - this film is going to eat Narnia alive!!! That and the week after Narnia and Sex and the City release, they will be releasing The Happening & Speed Racer. I hope this finds it audience.
Well worth the watch!! $13-

Aslan barely had a role in it, and Peter's character became nasty which does not happen in the book!
Caspian is really cute BUT Only 13!!!!

Keep your eye out for an over the top action movie coming out real soon with James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina called WANTED. It looks hot and Mr Tumnus has beefed it up for some shirtless scenes and so he can be cool. I am so in for watching the mud wrsetling match. LOL
Priyanka - I can't remember the book much anymore (serious mind like a sieve) - from what I can remember it felt like they filmed every second page of the book. There was quite a bit missing. I do remember though that Aslan did not have much of a part in the book because when I was reading I kept wanting Aslan to turn up. The scene in the movie where Lucy thinks she sees him was exactly the way I remember it. Also, agreed the film has been commercialised but that's what Hollywood does. And the use of Brian Barnes as Caspian has caused a bit of a stir among some CS Lewis die hards as, yes, he was meant to be a lot younger. But then Morgan could be sharing a cell with me and that's so not cool. Haha
Thanks for reading guys!

You sound like a Hoyts employee!!
Very correct in the $16.50 - and thanks, I will now update my scoring!!
BUT - if you read very carefully you will notice the score is based on a general admission price. Not scoring based on premium prices a la La Premiere and Gold Class.
