The Delicate Art of Parking ($6-)
Last night was filled with horrible storms and not wanting to do stuff on the 'puter I headed up to the local area to grab a pizza and some dvd's to watch. Ordered pizza from a shop with full power then crossed the road to DVD store that was blacked out. As long as we had cash you could browse in the darkness (new experience - I am in). Thankgod for mobile phone torch!! Being a near impossibility to find something I have not already seen due to working in the film industry I try to find different films I have never heard of before. I found this one and one I will watch after I write up this one called Sky Kids (hey I was in a Disney kind of mood).
This one is a Canadian comedy about a Parking Enforcement Officer, who - despite constant abuse from the public - finds truth, honour and serenity in the act of ticketing. His religious devotion to the work is challenged however, when his best friend and personal mentor is run down by an irate motorist and knocked into a deep coma. With the help of an angry young filmmaker, a Russian sound recordist hoping to break into the local film industry, and a seven-foot tall tow truck driver from Quebec, he embarks on a comical investigation into... the delicate art of parking.
The cover and the story grabbed me - amblazoned upon the cover is "Meet the "Kenny" of the Parking Wardens" - you know we all hate them as much as tax collectors so thought this would be great. It even had Winner - Golden Zenith Award and Winner Best Feature Fim Award from some place written on it. I googled it and up comes all these amazing claims and while I did find it contained some humor it was more of a one joke film for me and I quickly found it not amusing at all. Perhaps it's Canadian humor that I just did not get. It is a mocumentary and in doing this they should have made it a documentary and not have the entire thing scripted. It just did not work. The acting is OK with one lady in particular only having a small part and being absolutely hysterical (Nancy Roberston) - she is a mad crazy lady who when getting abused by members of the public gives it back full force and thinks that parking police should carry loaded weapons. But as she is only in the film on and off for a total of 5min you miss her humor when it isn't there.
Not my cup of tea and would like to know anyone elses opinion if they have seen it or choose to. Perhaps I needed to smoke a huge doobie first to enoy its humor. Worth $6- and probably at your local DVD store.
