The Incredible Hulk (2008) $12-
The explosive, action-packed adventure in one of the most popular superhero sagas unfolds with a cure in reach for the world's most primal force of fury: THE INCREDIBLE HULK. We find scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote. But the warmongers who dream of abusing his powers won't leave him alone, nor will his need to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler). Upon returning to civilization, our brilliant doctor is ruthlessly pursued by The Abomination (Tim Roth) - a nightmarish beast of pure adrenaline and aggression whose powers match The Hulk's own. A fight of comic-book proportions ensues as Banner must call upon the hero within to rescue New York City from total destruction. Thanks to Rotten Tomatoes for the Synopsis
While I enjoyed this action packed roller coaster ride of a film with heart I just found it nothing new. This film actually depicts (more so than any other Hulk film prior) the isolation and loneliness that Bruce lives with and the life he leads protecting the world from himself. While people are saying it's much better than Ang Lee's version I think it was too soon to release another Hulk film so close to the last one. It's shot well, it's cast well, it's acted well but I could not find anything I preferred in it to the Ang Lee version. Ed Norton is amazing as the brave humbled man who turns into a green beast, he supposedly tried to change the final cut and have more input to bring it even more heart and personal pain but studios won out. He brought his regular professionalism to a comic book film and I do find him the better Bruce Banner. Him and Liv are great together and as the heartbroken damsel trying to help her loved one, her small nature and angelic voice may bring a small tear. I found William Hurt's character nearly laughable - he just looks too made up. Tin Roth was OK as the Abomination but that's about it. According to Tim Roth, Edward Norton rewrote scenes every day; Norton and Liv Tyler also spent hours discussing their characters' lives (especially before the Hulk appeared).
It has some great actions scenes with tanks and other stuff getting thrown everywhere by a giant green child having a tantrum and the CGI was fabulous. There is one scene where Banner has to get past a security guard who he starts talking to and eventually saying "You are the Man" - this was a cameo of the original Hulk Lou Ferrigno who is still MASSIVE!! There is also another surprising cameo linking the two latest Marvel Films. Enter Mr Tony Stark (Ironman - Robert Downey Jnr), I think eventually they will have most of these films meet up. Bring it ON!!!
I really enjoyed how they did the back story all in the opening credits and am sure we will see a sequel however I don't think Ed will be back. Just don't see the sequel as his style.
While a long way from Iron Man this film will pack the cinemas because it's another predictable formulaic super hero movie with big budget and good acting. Worth $12-

I'm yet to see this one. Didn't see Ang Lee version so we'll see how it'll effect a mindless action movie lover like me.
Good review, Jason.
