One of Sandra Bullock's Best
Category: No Category
I was forced to watch this one and would have probably waited for a DVD release as I did not have much love to see it. Admittedly I do like Sandra Bullock and I find Ryan Reynolds funny and incredibly sexy. The trailer looked OK but it looked predictable and mildly funny but I had seen the trailer so many times I was just over it.
So when I had to watch it at 6am the morning after the Transformers premiere, with only 5hrs sleep, boy was I surprised at how much I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic comedy.
When high-powered book editor Margaret (SANDRA BULLOCK) faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she's actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant... When high-powered book editor Margaret (SANDRA BULLOCK) faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she's actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant Andrew (RYAN REYNOLDS), who she's tormented for years. He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family (MARY STEENBURGEN, CRAIG T. NELSON, BETTY WHITE) and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another. With an impromptu wedding in the works and an immigration official on their tails, Margaret and Andrew reluctantly vow to stick to the plan despite the precarious consequences. - Disney Touchstone
Sandra Bullock is probably in one of her best comedies and when I first saw the trailer and went "Hello Cougar" and thought this would be all wrong with her and Ryan Reynolds falling romantically in love I got a great surprise when it works on every level. Reynolds, 11yrs Bullock's junior, and Bullock are just perfect together and their chemistry and matched comic timing make this film a huge success.
Reynolds is absolutely perfect with his comic timing and his dread at working for "Satan's Bride" is great. The supporting cast is all a pleasure with highlight being Betty White, surviving Golden Girl. Was also good to see Malin Ackerman, in her first role since yours truly interviewed her for Watchmen. Love her!
The film's director, Anne Fletcher, has worked on many dance, romance and comedy films. Her list of filmography (Director, Producer, Choreographer, Dancer and Head Assistant) is very impressive. I have faith in most of her work and while not award winning films there are some great dance films and comedies in the list.
Besides this film she has done:
Step Up (2006) (director)
The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
The Longest Yard (2005)
Ice Princess (2005)
The Pacifier (2005)
Catwoman (2004)
Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004)
Along Came Polly (2004)
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003)
Down with Love (2003)
Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt (2003) (TV)
Bringing Down the House (2003)
The Master of Disguise (2002)
Like Mike (2002)
Showboy (2002)
Orange County (2002)
Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
Maybe It's Me (2001) TV Series
Six Feet Under (2001) TV Series
The Trumpet of the Swan (2001)
Monkeybone (2001)
The Wedding Planner (2001)
The Family Man (2000)
Grosse Pointe (2000) TV Series
Bring It On (2000)
Judging Amy (1999) TV Series
Dudley Do-Right (1999)
The Out-of-Towners (1999)
She's All That (1999)
Blast from the Past (1999)
Almost Heroes (1998)
Anastasia (1997)
A Life Less Ordinary (1997)
Boogie Nights (1997)
George of the Jungle (1997)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) TV Series
Casper (1995)
The Mask (1994)
The Flintstones (1994)
Trivia thanks to IMDB:
1) Sandra Bullock plays a Canadian who marries her assistant (Ryan Reynolds) in order to keep her Visa status in the U.S. and avoid deportation to Canada. In real life, Reynolds is from Canada and Bullock is American.
2) 225 Franklin St, Boston, was the real location of The Colden Books office. The entire main office, including Margaret's & Bob's offices, were completely rebuilt and replicated at Disney Studios in Burbank, CA for pickups and re-shoots in January 2009.
There is also the joy for many who have wanted to see Ms Bullock naked
and for those that want to see more of Ryan Reynolds showing some skin hahaha
This is one the whole family can enjoy, it's a great one to take your mum, grandma, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend or lover too
. It might be pretty predictable but the journey that Bullock and Reynolds take you on is worth it. Worth $14- and out now.

Celluloid Fun
Great to hear you enjoyed The Proposal, and I'll be seeing it soon.
I've been a fan of Ryan Reynolds since I saw him in Definitely Maybe, even though he didn't do much in it compared to Isla Fisher, Rachel Weiz, Elizabeth Banks and Abigail Breslin.
Sandra Bullock is cool but her best work I think is in dramas as I liked her in Speed, The Net and Crash.
Cheers!

Two Weeks Notice, Forces Of Nature, and 28 Days are my favourites.
Do you think this movie is much like the Jennifer Aniston flick Picture Perfect?
