Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: My scoring of films is now based on an "Out of 10" score. PRESS RELEASE THANKS TO PARAMOUNT

Highly anticipated Australian feature film, TOMORROW: WHEN THE WAR BEGAN has confirmed Australian release date.

Tomorrow When The War Began Release Date

Paramount Pictures is delighted to announce the feature film of John Marsden's
best-selling and much-loved TOMORROW: WHEN THE WAR BEGAN will open in cinemas in Australia on September 2, 2010.

Stuart Beattie, whose screenwriting credits include Australia, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Collateral, wrote the screenplay and will make his directorial debut on TOMORROW: WHEN THE WAR BEGAN , which is currently in post-production in Sydney.

Beattie said: shooting TOMORROW was by far the toughest experience of my career, but also the most enjoyable. To see the movie finally coming together in the edit suite now is nothing short of a dream come true. I'll be forever grateful to John Marsden not only for creating this story but for trusting me to bring it to the screen".

Paramount Pictures will handle distribution and marketing of the film in Australia and New Zealand. In both markets, a teaser trailer and poster are planned to be in cinemas for Easter, regular trailer and posters are scheduled for mid-year, with the whole release supported by an extensive marketing campaign across all media.

Mike Selwyn, Paramount Pictures Managing Director Vice President Australia/ New Zealand, said: "We know that since the completion of shooting before Christmas there are a lot of people who have been waiting for news about the release of the film and we are very happy to now be able to confirm the release date and some of the details of the campaign. The film makers are well into the post production process but it is important to take the time necessary to make the final film as good as it can possibly be. What we have seen so far is extremely exciting and we are sure that the many fans of these books will not be disappointed.

Producer Andrew Mason (Matrix and its sequels, Dark City, Silent Hill) added: "We've brought together the very best talents in front of and behind the cameras to ensure this production looks and feels like the huge movie the story deserves. We're already very proud of the film and we'll be working all the way until the release to crank up the volume even further."

Principal investor Omnilab Media, through its production arm, Ambience Entertainment, has taken the first novel in the series, TOMORROW: WHEN THE WAR BEGAN from page to screen.

The TOMORROW: WHEN THE WAR BEGAN cast features:

Caitlin Stasey (Neighbours, The Sleepover Club) as Ellie Linton
Rachel Hurd-Wood (Peter Pan, Dorian Gray, Perfume) as Corrie McKenzie
Lincoln Lewis (Home & Away) as Kevin Holmes
Phoebe Tonkin (H2O - Just Add Water) as Fiona (Fi) Maxwell
Deniz Akdeniz (When the Bell Rings) as Homer Yannos
Ashleigh Cummings (Home & Away, Razzle Dazzle) as Robyn Mathers
Chris Pang (Home Song Stories, Real Stories) as Lee
Andy Ryan (The Jesters) as Chris Lang

John Marsden's best-selling series of seven books has sold nearly 2 million copies in Australia and New Zealand.

I do like seeing Australian films getting some of the promotion they deserve. Tomorrow looks like a big one too which is rare given the funding here. I hope it does well.

Janet - if you have not read the book you should seriously get your hands on it. I think there is something like 10 or 12 books in total although book one can stand on its own. I read them all then lent them to mum - they are just brilliant.

It'll be interesting to see how they portray the enemy... it's implied in the book that it's probably Indonesia, but I'm not sure they'll have the balls to put that up on the screen.

For the record, there's no colon in the title, just a comma. I have to admit never having read any John Marsden, as I generally skipped teenage fiction altogether and went straight into Tolkien. That said, Australian post apocalyptic stories tend to have a very interesting 'texture' to them, if you will. Taronga, by Victor Kelleher, is one that I read in primary school.

I loved the Tomorrow series growing up, so I'll be seeing this one for sure! There's been a huge resurgence in the book series' popularity over the last couple of years, among the younger generation, and this film will really cement Marsden's status as a top Aussie author.

I went to a conference of his in high school - he's a really funny guy, and deep, thoughtful and so on... here's hoping the film does the first novel justice.

Looking forward to the release of this one JK! Glad I lent you that book all those years ago - can't wait to see if the movie measures up.

It's one thing I have always been interested to know Luke - how they would do the enemy - in the book they are never described - I think this is one of the successes of the books - it was just "the enemy". When you look at maps and the possibilities I suppose Indonesia would be the most logical explanation.

SHJ - thanks for sharing that - I will pass it onto Paramount who are releasing the film. The book may not have a colon but the movie definately does in all its press releases.
I will def suss out Taronga - I still find teen fiction so interesting to read. Less pretension, more imagination.

Journeywoman - the books totally rock. I think the resurgence over the last couple of years was also partially from the extra books he wrote to return to the tale - The Ellie Chronicles. The conference would've been awesome.
He still does teenage writing workshops on his property, where his idea for hell originated. I thought that was cool!
