Paramount announced today that 19-year-old Australian actress Caitlin Stasey will take the key role of Ellie Linton in the first film of John Marsden's hugely successful Tomorrow novels, a seven-volume "young adult invasion" series that has sold more than two million copies in Australia and New Zealand.
Marsden's series' recounts the guerilla warfare of a band of teenagers who fight to repel an attack on Australia. The books, which began publishing in 1993, are told from the perspective of Ellie.
Tomorrow: When the War Began will mark the directing debut of Stuart Beattie, whose writing credits include work on Pirates of the Caribbean, Collateral, Baz Luhrmann's Australia and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.
The film will be Stasey's first, having previously served time on long-running local soap Neighbours.
I am not sure if she is going to be able to pull it off - she was too precious on Neighbors playing Rachel Kinski, dating Dean Geyer's (IDOL) character, brother to teen heartthrob Zeke Kinski (Matthew Werkmeister) and always moping. I hope Beattie can pull off this momentous task of making her Eliie - fingers crossed. One thing I did remember hearing was how much boys and men of all ages thought she was the hottest thing on Neighbors and I just hope they haven't cast her for this reason and she turns out shit.
But it is massively exciting as at least the film is one step closer to being made - YAY THAT!!!!!
