Huge Sequel and Commercial Year
Finally I have found the holiday motivation to sit down and write out my top 11 films of the year, I decided to go with the TOP 11 as it was 2011. This is the first year I have actually had a few weeks off over the summer season and the holiday and weather has been so nice I have found that I am neglecting my time off by sitting at a computer, instead I have been walking and reading in the sun as well as eating and drinking and basically doing nothing
What I noticed out of this top 11 is that there are quite a few sequels or prequels and that the list is mostly commercial films with only one real art house film (Snowtown). I am happy to see that two Australian films made the list with Red Dog and the horrific Snowtown.
If you click on the titles for each film they are a link to take you to the review for the movie where you can also see a bunch of pictures and watch the trailer!
NUMBER 11 - WAR HORSE
I just loved the cinematography and old school style of this majestic epic. Spielberg is a genius - Rotten Tomatoes scored it at 77% and I scored it a 9 out of 10.
NUMBER 10 - SUPER 8
J.J. Abrams kick butt sci fi with some awesome kids in it. Rotten Tomatoes scored it 82% and I scored it a 9 out of 10.
NUMBER 9 - TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON
I thought Michael Bay made amends for his atrocity of Transformers 2 and it was great not to see Megan Fox in it
NUMBER 8 - WARRIOR
Warrior was the sleeper of the year. What a sensational surprise this was with huge standout performances from Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte. Rotten Tomatoes scores it at 82% while I gave it a 9 out of 10.
NUMBER 7 - THE RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
Superb prequel/ origins film this one was and nobody thought it would happen. Just loved it. Rotten Tomatoes scored it at 83% while again I scored it a 9 out of 10.
NUMBER 6 - RED DOG
Heartfelt Aussie family film that took my heart. Rotten Tomatoes went with 81% while I went with 9 out of 10.
NUMBER 5 - 127 HOURS
127 Hours was just a brilliant film with basically a one man cast that rocked my world. It did help having James Franco as the lead man
NUMBER 4 - SNOWTOWN
Bloody Snowtown - this film was a masterpiece and I scored it a perfect 10 out of 10 with Rotten Tomatoes going with 93%. The only problem is I hated the film, it was perfectly made but made me physically sick and gave me an anxiety attack. It got the perfect score because it managed to get such a reaction out of me. Do not watch this film people
NUMBER 3 - XMEN FIRST CLASS
The origins film of the X-Men franchise - easily the best X-Men film in the series that was so clever and engaging! Best cameo of the year also goes to Hugh Jackman
NUMBER 2 - ANONYMOUS
The controversial one in my list - I just LOVED this movie - could not fault it. Anything that stirs up the Shakespearean purists was perfect for me
NUMBER 1 - HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2
Nothing needs to be said - it was a masterpiece when combined with Part 1 and was a farewell film of the best franchise in movie history that is the end of an era for me. It made me cry lots
Now bring on the films of 2012!! Off to see my first one today with either Happy Feet 2 or The Iron Lady
Have a great New Year people!! What are you most looking forward to this year?

And stoked you liked Anonymous - most underrated film of the year. Not sure about Apes being a family film though
Would be interested to see what you think of Snowtown.
Have a good one!

My 10 yo step nephew was watching the Apes over xmas, i think family movies are a lot darker now since Harry Potter and LOTR.
Red Dog, excellent move casting Josh Lucas, I love him, one of the most underrated actors, I always keep an eye out for films he's in.
Here is my Top 11 of 2011, even though the vast majority were from the previous year

Snowtown is HEAVY - I mean anxiety attack heavy and most of my friends that saw Inside Job raved about it.

I knew I would get this comment from you - special mention goes to Bieber - I did rate it a 9 out of 10 but liked the others more and I can't put Glee in my Top 11 as I never saw it - something I promise to rectify as soon as I see it

I've watched most of the movies that you're listed (Except the Snowtown) To be honest, these movies are all my "Top Picks" for year 2011.
