Welcome to Salty Popcorn - my site dedicated to expressing my opinion on films. Most of the reviews I read in the paper make me angry that they are either all so negative or I completely disagree with them. So now it's my turn. I may also throw in the odd post of whatever the hell I like. I hope you enjoy it and if you do sign up for updates on the left hand side. Thanks for stopping in!! PLEASE NOTE: I rate my films different from the standard 5 star approach. As I work in the cinema industry I am aware that the most expensive general admission ticket is $16.50. My rating of a film is based on what I think the ticket is worth in a dollar amount up to $16.50 (a perfect film). If I think a film is worth about $5- it's probably not worth watching in my opinion. What Happens in Vegas - Review

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS (2008) $12-
I found this one of the better "chick flicks" I have seen for ages. They planned it well releasing "Made of Honor" a week before it. This film shits on it.
90% of cinema goers love watching Cameron Diaz on film and Ashton is just SO F%$KING HOT. LOL. And in comedies he is master. Put the two of them together and it's GOLD. The chemistry between these two sizzles and you can tell they had so much fun making it. Watch out Demi - they belong together!!

Joy just got dumped by her boyfriend; Jack just got canned from his job. Convinced by their friends, the two end up going to Las Vegas and in one drunken night of passion, they discover they've gotten married following a night of debauchery in Sin City, and while trying to end the marriage, one of them has won a huge jackpot after playing the other's quarter. The newlyweds devise ever-escalating schemes to undermine each other and get their hands on the money, only to find themselves falling in love.

You don't expect awards for a comedy like this, the production qualities are limited but the two of them on-screen are just awesome. They each have their own sidekick, Cameron Diaz's best friend in the film, Lake Bell and Ashton's goose of a friend, Rob Corddry are just insanely funny and occasionally steal the scene with their love hate relationship.

Dennis Farina and Queen Latifah have minor roles and I found them underutilized. Both of them are extremely good at comedy but I just found their roles flat. Also, for a Vegas film you don't see much of the strip or what most people are accustomed to. But I did love the Vegas scenes where they meet and hook up.
Things to note - if you watch this film you have to stay through the credits - there is some of the funniest parts in the whole film in the credits and there is one small part at the very end of the credits. The video you get see at the start of the credits of the actual wedding was shot with the actors actually plastered on alcohol. It took multiple takes of the scene as the drunken actors were out of control. I fell out of my seat watching this hilarity.

Don't expect more than you should from this film. It is what it is - a fun romp starring HOT people that will make you leave in a bit of lust and with a smile on your face. Take your partner to this one for some extra brownie points!! Worth $12-

Jason, I'll make my husband take me to this, and I'll tell him you said he should!

The last "Chick Flick" I got him to see with me was P.S. I Love You, which I reviewed here if you're interested. I loved it.

I hope that What Happens in Vegas is better than 27 Dresses, which I thought was boring as hell, even though I like Katherine Heigel.

Thanks for the review!

Hey, if 90% of audiences love Cameron Diaz wouldn't every film she makes comprise the top ten highest grossing films of all time?

Just kidding. But funnily enough i love the gorgeous diaz but HATE the talentless Ashton Kutcher....seriously I dont see the deal with this guy? What is his appeal? he has this "i cant believe they are paying me" look all the time, he delivers every single line as if he doesnt understand what he saying...maybe he has finally grown up for this film.

Ill watch this movie, but i think it looks rubbish, your review did however sway me into thinking I should give it a shot.

Ps. Are the outakes funnier than the entire film? Thats never a good sign....did you see rush hour 3, i only laughed during the outtakes..so if thats the case hear i should probably stay away.

27 dresses was unfunny garbage only made for greys anatomy fans and single women in their mid thirties. If katherine heigl did not have an ounce of charm that film would have been straight to dvd.

anyway maybe i should stop rambling and go and see the movie.

They would comprise the top 10 film's if every one of those people bought a ticket to everyone of her films. Yes 90% of cinema goers love seeing her but they are not active in watching everything she is in. When they do - they like her.
That "i cant believe they are paying me" look is also known as puppy dog eyes. Something many guys would love to have - it lets them get away with murder and makes many a lady and gay man go weak at the knees.
Never said outtakes are funnier than the entire film - I said some of the funniest scenes in the movie are through the credits. The one scene they actually filmed off their faces is hysterical and a hypothetical suggested scene in the start actually happens.
Didn't bother with 27 Dresses - prob won't on dvd either. Watch Vegas, won't be for everyone but this is just my opinion of what I liked.
Let us know briefly of what you thought of it.

Jason, i totally got what you said about the 90%, i was only joking, kinda backfired it seemed. She was increadibly awesome in this film.

I saw the movie.
And i really enjoyed it, you were right i must say.

I found kutcher really annoying at the start, but as he became nicer throughout i really began to enjoy his performace, but i still think he is a pretty rubbish actor, he is funny...just not enough for me to carry a movie, to make me believe in the character... an actors looks aren't enough for me to enjoy a performance, they need charisma and need to feel as if they are 'in the moment', for me kutcher always seems as if he is elsewhere, Him in this film kinda swayed me to his camp alittle i suppose.

I agree with you on the end scenes, they were funny and added colour to the picture.

I thought the film was slightly above average, kind of sappy and superficial, but ultimately very funny and fast...definitely entertaining....sweet, but not too sickly.

Good, light hearted fun at the movies, and thats what you need sometimes.

ps. damn movie was out of focus the whole time, it really really distracted the hell out of me.

Glad u enjoyed it.
CIN 3 focus is out of our hands. I have changed every component on the projector at a cost of close to $3000- and still something is vibrating. On Monday I start changing components in the lamphouse. After that it's another $3000- to change the major intermittent sprocket, which is what makes projectors possible with the whole fluid motion and no seeing of the frame line. I have 3 other projectionists all offering advice on the cause but this issue is going to be the end of me. I hate not being able to repair something.
Rent out the movie Peaceful Warrior - it's awesome.
