Wild Target (7/10) DVD Review and GIVEAWAY
The competition/ giveaway for the film is after the review if you slackers want to run to the end
With big thanks to ICON Films I not only got to watch an advanced DVD of the film at home but they sent me another two so I could share with you all.
I will let you in on a little secret - I am just not a fan of English comedy - "ducks and covers.............." I know - I loathe Monty Python and the craziness of the situation comedy never seem to entertain me in the slightest. BUT - throw in Bill Nighy and Emma Blunt and you may just get me to turn.
Wild Target is a comedy about uptight Victor Maynard (Bill Nighy), a middle-aged, solitary assassin, who lives to please his formidable mother Louisa (Eileen Atkins), despite his own peerless reputation for lethal efficiency. His professional routine is interrupted when he finds himself drawn to one of his intended victims, Rose (Emily Blunt). He spares her life, unexpectedly acquiring a young apprentice in the process, Tony (Rupert Grint). Believing Victor to be a private detective, his two new companions tag along, while he attempts to thwart the murderous attentions of his unhappy client (Rupert Everett).
It is a joyous slapstick romp that unfortunately loses a bit of the plot towards the end of the film but was none the less a laugh out loud enjoyment. Emily Blunt and Rupert Gint are enjoyable and quite funny and Rupert Everett is passable but of course the huge standout was always going to be Bill Nighy - can the guy ever do wrong - ok - yes he can - I loathed him in Stormbreaker - but that could have been more the screenwriters changing the character too much from the book. He is again at his best in this one.
The film is directed by Jonathan Lynn who is most known for films like My Cousin Vinny, Sgt. Bilko and The Whole Nine Yards and I think he does an admirable job. I started getting restless towards the end when the comedy kind of got a little too crazy. There has been lots of quibbling amongst critics with a 50/ 50 split on liking or disliking the movie. For me it definitely fits the liking and the people who do seem to like it are either people who enjoyed the French comedy cop films of the 50s and 60s or people who loved the French original and thought this one was slightly better.
This is a definite must for all people who appreciate the English comedy and a must to show all your parents and even your grandparents.
NOW - to win one of the two copies of this film on DVD be the first to email me at jkdigitaldesigns@gmail.com the answer to the following question PLUS your postal address:
What famous 2006 fashion film made me fall in love with Emily Blunt and her sassy bitch character?
Wild Target is out on DVD this week and worth a good 7 out of 10. Thanks Icon Films.
