Feel Good Movie for Sure!
Category: Trailers
Tom McCarthy, acclaimed writer/director of "The Visitor" and "The Station Agent," explores the allegiances and bonds between unlikely characters with a lighter touch in his new film. Struggling attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, becomes legal guardian of an elderly client in an attempt to help keep his practice afloat. When the client's teenage grandson runs away from home and shows up on his grandfather's doorstep, Mike's family life and his wrestling team are turned upside down. Mike's win-win proposition turns into something much more complicated than he ever bargained for. McCarthy's deft touch balancing drama and comedy, broken hearts and poignant humanity is at play in "Win Win."
This definitely looks like feel good movie of the year. I actually like Paul Giamatti. When I read over his bio on IMDB there is a lot to be impressed with. We will ignore Lady in the Water - as we know whose fault that one was. But Giamatti was great in the Planet of the Apes remake, Sideways was a standout for me, and then there were parts in Saving Private Ryan, The Illusionist, Cinderella Man and the list goes on and on! Impressive.
Newcomer Alex Shaffer also looks impressive in this film although I would like to hold him down and shave that ridiculous hair off him but good luck getting close to that little wrestling champ. Win Win also stars Amy Ryan (War of the Worlds, Gone Baby Gone), Melanie Lynskey (Heavenly Creatures, Up in the Air), Jeffrey Tambor (The Hangover, The Grinch) and Bobby Cannavale (The Other Guys, The Bone Collector) plus a bunch of other recognisable people.
I am looking forward to this one, releasing in the US on March 18.
